  January 8th, 2012
Winner: JOE METCALF
Results: 1st, Joe Metcalf. 2nd, Anne Weatherston. 3rd, Lewis Robertson. 4th, Graham Nixon. 5th, Roy Holliday. 6th, David Symes. 7th, Kenny Stewart. 8th, Dan Gawith. 9th, Gary Hill. 10th, Paul Lamonby.
Raffle Winner: Mark Atkinson
A total of 33 players made our first live event of the year in Carlisle, and this which would have been 34 if Mike Hawkins had travelled to Carlisle instead of Lowca. This is what is known in the poker world as "doing a Dave Scrimgour!" There were alot of new faces with a strong contingent travelling from Alston. It was also nice to see the Redfurn players turn up including Lewis Robertson who still must be kicking himself for not making the team event. Paul Lamonby was the first casualty on the final table pushing AI UTG with it folding around to the big blind, only for Dan Gawith to call with J,7 and subsequently hit quad 7's. Gary Hill was next to go when AI with pocket 10's was called by Graham "Butch" Nixon with A,K and a flopped Ace sent Gary to the rails. Butch then sent Dan Gawith out J,4 v A,6 and nothing coming to help Dan. Butch now had half the chips in play. Kenny Stewart was next to go when his Q,4 was called by Lewis Robertson holding 10,8 and Lewis went on to spike an 8. Our 6th place finisher was David Symes was next to go when he jammed AI with 8,4 and was looked up by Anne Weatherston holding The "Ken Johnston" (K,J). Roy Holliday (pocket 5's) who was hoping to gain some extra funds for his impending Stag-Do was the Bubble Boy when he decided to re-raise Butch's min raise only to find Butch holding The Bullets. Butch then committed suicide and lost his big chip lead and eventually fell to Joe Metcalf. Butch jammed with J,2 and Joe called with 6,5 turning a six to send Butch crashing out with £180 to console himself with. Lewis Robertson who missed out on a huge payday at the team event in December as he fell foul to Christmas drink was to cash in 3rd for £275 when he pushed with J,10 and Joe called with Q,7. There was no improvement for either player and the Redfern Dude took some consolation but must be kicking himself for missing our December event. It was all over the very next hand when Anne pushed AI with K,10 and was unlucky that Joe was holding pocket 9's which improved to trip. Well played everyone and thanks to all that attended. We feel confident that the new format and the new faces will see our numbers rise during 2012. Many thanks and welcome on-board to our new dealer Sophie Marshall. Our next event @ The Ukrainian Club in Carlisle will be on SATURDAY 25TH FEBRUARY, 7pm start when NEIL CHANNING & ONE YET TO BE NAMED BLACKBELTPOKER PRO will entering the Northern Poker Stars £25 Double Chance Event. This event will be HUGE, perhaps even a sell-out. Paul Lamonby will not be here for this event so please reserve your seats ASAP so he can inform Ken Johnston and you can secure your place in the first ever live event in Cumbria to feature two Top Professional Players.

Results: 1st, Anne Weatherston. 2nd, Johnny Stedman. 3rd, Barry Curle. 4th, Danny Black. 5th, Chris Dodd. 6th, Sean Barlow. 7th, Will MacGillivray. 8th, Mark Atkinson. 9th, Nicky Jefferson. 10th, Alan Hewson.
Raffle Winner: Anne Weatherston
A total of 24 players made our last event of the year. Five players travelled through from the West and I would like to thanks all those that have made the trip through to Carlisle to support our events this year. This was a nail biting finish to the year with the permutations meaning any one of four players could be crowned 2011 Northern Poker Stars Live Carlisle Tournament Champion. Going into the event, our long time leader, Kevin Orr was the favourite even though his lead was only a single point. Disaster was to strike for Kevin when he flopped a flush against Don Kean and jammed AI to be called by Don holding a bigger flush. Kevin was now the short stack of the tournament and was soon sent packing by Will "The Hulk" MacGillivray, who called Kevin's jam (pocket 7's) with J, 5 o/s and sent the Whitehaven lad to the rails. The destiny of the title was now out of Kevin's hands. All was not lost though as his closest rivals, Alan Hewson and Stuart Beattie were feeling the pressure. Stuart hardly played and hands and was being squeezed when he did enter a pot. He soon found himself down to less than 10xbb. Alan was in in a worse position when he went down to 400 chips which ironically was only 1xbb. This meant that the door was open for Mark Atkinson to make a late charge for the title. Mark has been in fantastic form recently and the scenario of both Alan and Stuart failing to make the final table, meant that Mark could tie with Kevin, forcing a straight heads-up shootout for the title, if he won the tournament outright. The worrying thing for Kevin was that Mark was amassing a stack to do such a thing. Kevin was prowling the tables like a cat on a hot tin roof. Kevin's hope were answered when Stu Beattie jammed on two limpers into his bb. Ken Johnston folded his Q,10 but Richard Robinson called and they were on their backs for a race. Robbo (K,10) v Stu (The Dolly Parton, 9,5).. Kevin was delighted. Flop.. *, *, 9, turn 9 river 5. I looked at Kevin and his face was like Bad Fat! Meanwhile Alan Hewson's final 400 chips found their way onto the felt and he was to quadruple up from three callers with A, 10. A couple of hands later he was to double up with A, 9 and then he picked up The Bullets and even more chips! Now Kev Orr realised that the title was slipping from his grasp even though the demise of Stu Beattie (AI in bb with 8, 8 v Mark Atkinson K,Q o/s - turn gave Mark a flush) meant that the obstacles between him and his first NPS title in his debut year were getting less. With Stu out in 12th place, both Mark Atkinson and Kev Orr were praying Alan Hewson was the final table bubble, but that unwanted accolade went to Luke Cameron. The title was now decided. ALAN HEWSON WAS CROWNED THE NORTHERN POKER STARS 2011 LIVE CARLISLE TOURNAMENT PLAYER OF THE YEAR. CONGATULATIONS ALAN. The man from Wetherall is an ever present at the NPS live tournament's in both Carlisle and Whitehaven and is very popular with the players from both venue's. There was still the matter of runner-up to decide. We were back to the scenario where a tournament win by Mark Atkinson would mean a tie with Kev Orr, but this time to be the silver medalist. The first casualty of the final table was our new Champion, Alan Hewson when his pocket Queen's were cracked by A,9 held by Danny Black. Was he bothered you may ask yourself? My guess was he was.. This guy plays to win and he would have taken very little consolation from winning the league. He would have been dead set on taking down this event also. Nicky Jefferson fell in 9th place when his A, K was cracked by Sean Barlow with J, 6 in the bb. Mark Atkinson was the next player out when he ran pocket Ten's into pocket Queen's against Chris Dodd. This gave us the final medal positions for our 2011 league. Alan Hewson was our Champion, with Kevin Orr finishing runner-up and Stuart Beattie in third place. I would like to congratulate Kevin Orr for his performnces this year, particularly at the start of 2011 when he was in outstanding form. Kevin lead the Carlilse league since April and it is a bitter pill to swallow to lose out in the final event. Rememeber Dude you still have the West Cumbria league to contest and today's event show's that the leader can easily be caught. Congratulations also go to Stu Beattie who fought his way into contention for the title in the latter months of the year and might look back at today's event and think that his tight, safe style of play might have cost him the crown. Finally Mark, Atkinson, who had a few players feeling uncomfortable in the final event, and has played excellent poker this year and taken more cash from the tournaments, both live and online than he has spent in entry fee's. No wonder he can afford to dine at Michelin star restaurants. Will MacGillivray went out in 7th place. I hope to see more of Will at our live events in 2012. He has had to ease off on poker for a while as he recently got married, but please remember Will that the cashes that you have had at the NPS events went some way to paying for your wedding. Now that you and your wife are expecting yuour first child then some more cashes at NPS events will help furnish "The Baby Hulk's" nursery - Sorry Sophie.. I couldn't resist. Sean Barlow went in out in 6th, when he jammed with Q, 8 only to run into A, Q held by Anne Weatherston. The first of our future stars, Chris Dodd was our 5th place finisher when he pushed with A, 4 and was called by Anne holding pocket 7's. The bubble went to another Young Gun, Danny Black, who played excellent poker all day. He got unlucky earlier with A, Q v A, 3 (against Doddy), otherwise his stack should have seen him home. He eventually fell to Anne when he jammed preflop with Q, 10 and was looked up by Anne (5, 3) who flopped a flush. Danny collected £60 from the remaining three players and thus had a free day but won enough off his Liverpool to beat Chelsea bet. Barry Curle finished third and collected £230.. Another victim off Anne who came from behind with A, 6 to beat Baz's A, 9. What can I say about Baz Curle? Quite simple really.. Another event / another cash! We were left with our former Champ, Johnny Stedman & Anne Weatherston. They agreed to split the remaining £920 but played out for the points and Anne won. Infact Anne won twice as she took down the raffle for a £30 discount off her next live seat. But then again she was playing this event with a £30 discount, after winning a previous raffle. Take some advice from Anne and spend £1 on a raffle ticket. That's the end of our live Carlisle tournaments for 2011 with the exception of next month's Team Championship event. We will be back in 2012 with the new format - £25 Double Chance and we will be at Carlisle on the second Sunday of most month's with the exception of February when we will welcome the Black Belt Poker Pro, Neil Channing to our tournament and April when we will avoid a clash with Easter Sunday. There will be no live league events in July (NPS Championship only) or December (NPS Team Championship only), meaning a ten event league to find our Champion of 2012. I would like to thank you all for your support and must add how much I have enjoyed the company of the Carlisle players, making new friends along the way.

Winner: RICHARD ROBINSON
Results: 1st, Richard Robinson. 2nd, Chris Dodd. 3rd, Don Kean. 4th, Stuart Beattie. 5th, Mark Atkinson. 6th, Nicky Jefferson. 7th, Gary Hill. 8th, Maurice Wigham. 9th, Stewart Telford. 10th, Ken Johnston.
Raffle Winner: Mike Hawkins
A total of 33 players made October's event with 11 travelling from the West. This was a third of the field and without their support we would be in the low 20's for our Carlisle events. There was two new players in Ben Pope and Paul Lewis. Ben was early to exit and Paul was sat on my table and had his Aces cracked by Dayle Foster who was being a menace on our table playing any two. The final table consisted of 2 players from the West. The first being Ken Johnston who went out in 10th place, soon followed by fellow "Westie," Maurice Wigham in 8th place. Knocked out in 9th place between these two players was Stewart Telford who thought he had already been Ko'd from the tournament only to find he still had 300 chips left after an AI with Nicky Jefferson. Stewart then managed to turn his 300 into 30k via a series of double up's. Gary Hill was out in 7th place when his 8,7 ran into K,8 held by Chris Dodd. Out in 6th place was Nicky Jefferson who's A,Q was not to hit and he was sent to the rails to by Don Kean's 9,9. The bubble was Mark Atkinson who ran K,Q into A,10 held by Chris Dodd, but Mark collected £10 from each of the remaining 4 players. 4th place and £190 went to Stuart Beattie who once again clung on to make the final table and pick up some valuable points in his march to be crowned NPS Carlisle Champion. In 3rd place picking up £290 was Don Kean who I have to say was unlucky not to knock Richard Robinson out, when he called an A,5 shove from the bb with A,J only for Richard to spike the 5. Richard then went on to knock Don out when Don's 6,6 ran into 10,9 only for Richard to once again hit the card he was looking for. Heads-up was a battle that I was looking forward to watching. It was the experience of Richard Robinson (Irish Poker Open 2010 - 10th place finisher) against the young pretender Chris Dodd, whom I fully expect to win a big tournament in the future. There was not even a hint of a deal here which is nice to see. It was to be a battle to the last chip. Unfortunately it was Chris Dodd who would be sent home after being on the receiving end of a J,3 v A,K battle. Chris collected £400 for his excellent play. in 2nd collecting £400 for his troubles. Our winner, Richard Robinson collected £720 and that would soften the blow on a long drive home to Stockport. Well played Robbo. Our next and our final NPS live league tournament of 2011 in Carlisle will be held on Sunday 20th November 2011 at The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle, 2pm start. Here one from Kevin Orr (152 points), Alan Hewson (151 points) or Stuart Beattie (151 points) will be crowned NPS Live Tournament Champion 2011 - Carlisle. I personally hope all three make the final table and I am there to squeeze the sh*t out of them. Good luck to each and everyone of you.

A total of 23 players contested our latest event, with 5 of those players travelling through from the West, 4 of them going on to make the final table and 1 going home alone in a sulk! We had 3 new faces in Aaron McNeill, John Nee and Carl English. Aaron was unlucky not to make the final table in his first NPS live event, but finished in a creditable 11th place. Paul Lamonby was the first casualty on the final table, when he defended his bb with a 4-bet jam (A,Q) and was called by Barry Curle (A,K). Next out in 9th place was Ken Johnston when he jammed AI (A,7) from the bb after being raised from the sb by Neil Wedgewood (K,J). Neil called the AI and flopped a King. Paul Christian finished in 8th place after sitting patiently with a low stack and eventually he picked up A,A in the bb. He 4-bet jammed and was called by the original raiser, Gary Hill (6,6) who went on to hit quads. Alan Hewson is now only 1 point behind Kevin Orr in the race for the Northern Poker Stars Live Player of the Year 2011 - Carlisle. Alan went out in 7th place after pushing AI with a short stack (K,J) and being looked up by Gary Hill (8,3) who improved and sent another player to the rails. Neil Wedgewood was Gary Hill's next victim (J,10 v Q,J). The ever consistent Stuart Beattie made another final table and has moved up into the trophy positions and has a good chance of being crowned our Champion. Stuart was knocked out by Gary Fowler (K,2 v A,3). Gary Fowler then went on to be our bubble in 4th place collecting £40 after running into Gary Hill (A,9 v A,K). Barry Curle collected £220 and was Gary Hill's fifth victim (Q,10 v 7,7). Mark Atkinson was our runner-up and collected £330 (K,Q v 9,9). Our winner, who decimated the final table, Gary Hill picked up a tidy £550. Well played Gary and congratulations to all the players that cashed. Our next live event at The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle will be held on Sunday 16th October, 2pm start.

Raffle Winner: Anne Weatherston
A total of 25 players started the August event with 6 of those travelling through from the West. The final table was represented by ten players from Carlisle and in his first event, Paul Todhunter, aka Mad Chef, finished in the points. There were many familiar faces on the final table, with Alan Hewson, Gary Hill, Barry Curle, Mark Atkinson and Luke Cameron, all of whom have made previous final tables in Carlisle. The payout saw our 4th place finisher, Gary Hill collect £120. 3rd place, Alan Hewson cashed for £240. Our runner-up, Dean Lamonby, came back from being all but finished earlier in the tournament but managed to cash on his birthday weekend for the sum of £360. Our winner, Will MacGillivray collected £480 making a total of just over £2000 from the last two NPS live tournaments. The Hulk is back! Well played Will. Our next live event at The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle will be held on Sunday 18th September, 2pm start.

Raffle Winner: Anne Weatherston
A total of 38 players turned up for our latest event with 13 of those travelling though from the West. I have to say this is good support. Out of this number, 2 went on to make the final table in Kevin Orr, who yet again collected points and John Reid who was unlucky to finish on the bubble, although he got his entry fee back when all of the top 5 players put £10 in each for the bubble. There was a few familiar faces back on the live circuit scene with Roy Holliday, Dave (Haye) Mccrone and Dan Greenslade who went on to finish 5th for £170. 4th place and £230 went to Kelvin James who cashed in his first ever NPS live event. 3rd place and £300 went to Paul Lamonby. The ever consistent Alan Hewson finished 2nd and cashed for £440. Our winner, Luke Cameron, playing only his second NPS live event, cashed for a cool sum of £760. The top four agreeded on a deal and all collected £400 each with it being played out for the points and remaining £130 prize money. The next event is our £220 NPS Championship which will be held on Saturday 23rd July. We held the draw for the NPS Championship raffle with Stuart Beattie winning the Whitehaven draw and Anne Weatherston winning the Carlisle draw. Both players will receive £180 off a Championship seat as there have been 6 raffles in each venue.

15 players contested our £100 Super Stack Freezeout. Many apologies for my absence as I was at Razorlight and also for Paul's absence as he was ill. As a general rule, I will cancel the event if less than 20 players, but I cannot account for players that reserve seats and don't show. This was the case at this event when 6 players failed to show. Many thanks to Anne and Dee for running the event in Paul's absence. The top 4 players cashed with £175 going to Alan Hewson (4th). Gary Hill (3rd) collected £260 which I hope he put's t good use in Vegas. Nicky Jefferson and David Symes split the remaining £1115 with Nicky having the chiplead, collecting £565 and David collecting £550. The top two players then played it out for the points with David coming out on top. The top 4 players all gave the bubble (Brian McCulloch) £10 each. Our next event at The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle will be our £50 Deep Stack Freezeout on SUNDAY 3RD JULY 2011, 2pm start.

Winner: GARY HILL
Results: 1st, Gary Hill. 2nd, Josy Hewer. 3rd, Johnny Stedman. 4th, Kevin Orr. 5th, Nick Beaty. 6th, Stephen Ralph. 7th, Carl Dawber. 8th, Stuart Beattie. 9th, Dan Lewthwaite. 10th, Stuart Graham.
Raffle Winner: Ken Johnston
A total of 34 Players turned out for our £50 event, which was a good turnout considering it clashed with R1BW. Thanks to the eight players who travelled from the West with two of them going onto cash in Kev Orr and Josy Hewer - well played. We also had two players traveling from Dumfries in Stephen Ralph and Carl Dawber who both went into make the final table and with a little bit more luck would have cashed. I think it won't be long before these two players are taking down a tournament. Carl was on my table and he was always putting people to the test with his 3 betting in position and his aggressive style and it was hard to know what cards he was playing with, which as a result, he even got me to fold AK, pre-flop. It's all been noted Carl and I look forward to our next clash. The final table saw Stuart Graham make back-to-back final tables at Carlisle but was our first casualty as he ran A,5 into pocket Aces held by Josy Hewer. Dan Lewthwaite, fresh from his profitable trip to Vegas was our 9th place finisher when he got it AI pre-flop against Johnny Stedman, Dan's A,K failed to hit and Cooty's J,J held up. Stuart Beattie finished in 8th place when short stacked he ended up AI with 4,2 and was called by Kevin Orr holding Q,J. It was then the battle of the Dumfries boys when Carl Dawber got it AI with A,Q against Stephen Ralph holding A,10. The board paired Ralph's 10 and he sent his mate to the rails. Stephen Ralph then finished in 6th place after pushing with 10, 8 and running into A,A held by Gary Hill. The bubble was Nick Beaty who went out with J,8 v A,5 held by Gary Hill. 4th place and £200 went to Kevin Orr, who is the current leader in the race for the Carlisle Player of the Year title. Kevin has made 4/5 final tables this year at Carlisle. Kev's pocket 2's was bust by Josy Hewer who called holding A,K. Well played again Kev. 3rd place and £300 went to Johnny Stedman who is now Kevin's closest rival in the race for the title. Cooty gave up his r1bw Sunday ticket to play today and I am sure that he will be happy with the £300 as his son will be with the Sunday ticket. Johnny's pocket 4's were dominated by Gary Hill's pocket 6's and the board didn't help him out. Well done Cooty. 2nd place and £415 went to Josy Hewer. Our winner, collecting £740 was Gary Hill. I have to say Gaz seems to pick up A,A at just the right times and he played well all day, knocking out plenty of players on his way to victory - including me! The top two players chopped first and second and walked away with £577.50 each. The next event in Carlisle is our £100 15k Super Stack Freezeout on Sunday 18th June 2011, 2pm start. NPS players are on tour this weekend. We are going to the DTD poker room where Johno, Will Wharton and Chris Fairclough hold a Golden Chip which pays £5000 if they make it to the final table. Let's hope we can roll like last year.

Winner: LEWIS ROBERTSON
Results: 1st, Lewis Robertson. 2nd, Paul Lamonby. 3rd, Anne Weatherston. 4th, Nicky Jefferson. 5th, Johnny Stedman. 6th, Chris Irving. 7th, Kevin Orr. 8th, Stuart Irving. 9th, Stuart Graham. 10th, Garry Duguid.
Raffle Winner: Mark Atkinson
A total of 42 players contested a total prizepool of £2050. The numbers are steadily increasing at the events and two players found themselves on the alternates list after we capped the event at 40 runners. The only way you can guarantee your seat is to contact me before the event. If it wasn't for the late withdrawal of three players on the morning of the event, then these alternates would not have gained entry to the event. Thanks to the 13 players that travelled through from the West and a special mention to Dave Scrimgour who travelled from Keswick to Whitehaven to take down his own NPS tournament, before traveling to Carlisle to play in the real one. Absolute class! We had two new players. Peter Hewson, who is crackers on a poker table with his banter of bad luck stories and Lewis Robertson who went on to take the tournaments down. Garry Duguid went out in 10th place after running pocket 5's into pocket Q's held by Paul Lamonby. Stuart Graham finished in 9th when his K,10 was found wanting by the pocket 9's of Lewis Robertson. Stuart Irving was our 8th place finisher when he shoved with pocket 2's and was called by Lewis Robertson holding K,Q and the board sent Stuart to the rails. Kevin Orr made it 3/4 final tables in Carlisle this year but was short of the cash after making a move with Q,3 only to be looked up by Paul Lamonby holding Q,10. Chris Irving was the "bubble" when he shoved short-stacked with 3,2 only to be called by Paul Lamonby holding J,9. Johnny Stedman eventually fell after surviving a few all-in's when his A,2 was cracked by the K,Q held by Anne Weatherston. Johnny collected £190 for his day's play. Nicky Jefferson was unlucky to finish in 4th place after calling an AI by Paul Lamonby. Nicky turned A,K and Paul turned J,10 and the board sent Nicky home with £240. Paul Lamonby then saw off his fifth victim on the final table when his 9,4 got lucky against J,10 held by Anne Weatherston. Anne collected £330. Paul Lamonby - 2nd (£470) and Lewis Robertson - 1st (£820) then agreed on a chop, with both players taking home £645. They played it out for the points and Lewis was our winner. Excellent play Lewis. I'm sure you will be back again. Our next live NPS tournament @ The Ukrainian Club, will be the £50 Deep Stack Freezeout on Sunday 15th May, 2pm start. Remember the numbers are increasing and turning up on the day will not guarantee you a seat.

Winner: IAN ARNOLD
Results: 1st, Ian Arnold. 2nd, David Symes. 3rd, Mark Atkinson. 4th, Dean Lamonby. 5th, Sean Dixon. 6th, Robert Don. 7th, Billy Morgan. 8th, Dan Lewthwaite. 9th, Kevin Orr. 10th, Bob Cloudsdale.
Raffle Winner: Nick Beaty
A total of 35 players contested the latest NPS live event at the Ukrainian Club, Carlisle. Many thanks to the 10 players that travelled through from the West, as well as another new player, Mikey Davidson from Carlisle, who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro last year with Ken Johnston. We also got a couple of new players from North of the Border in Nick Beaty and Stephen Relph from Dumfries. Nick won the raffle and stands a 1 in 7 chance of winning his seat (worth £200 + £20) to the Northern Poker Stars Championship event on 23rd/24th July. Stephen is looking to bring fellow poker players to our events from Dumfries and I can honestly say that I think he has found the next best thing to poker events in a casino. 3 of the Westie's (Bob Cloudsdale, Kevin Orr and Billy Morgan) made the final table with Bob Cloudsdale (J,6s) finishing in 10th place after pushing AI blind with the short stack and exiting after being called by Dean Lamonby (A,8o/s). Ken must be sick of typing the name "Kevin Orr" into the results page and the leaderboards page. Kev has now made 9/12 final tables in all our events this year, with 2/3 final tables in Carlisle, 3/3 final tables in Whitehaven and 4/6 online final tables with 3 online tournament wins. This is without doubt the best form we have ever witnessed from an NPS player. Well done Kev. Kev was knocked out by Billy after he pushed with A,K and Billy's pocket 7's held up. Dan Lewthwaite goes to Vegas next week with his partner and has a 10 tournament schedule. We wish Dan and his partner the best of look and we hope you have a very successful, enjoyable and profitable trip. Dan warmed up for Vegas by making the final table. He was sitting pretty but two hands sealed his fate. Dan holding pocket Q's called Ian Arnold's AI. Arny showed A,K and the flop came K,K,A with the turn bringing a Q and the river a rag. Dan then short stacked pushed with 5,2 and was looked up by Robert Don who showed pocket 7's and Dan was on his way home to pack his case (Lucky Man). Billy Morgan (A,J) was then eliminated by David Symes (Q,Q). Robert Don (K,8) was then knocked out by Sean Dixon (10,5) and Sean who has made consecutive final tables in February and then March was our bubble after going out with 7,5 when he was looked up by David Symes holding J,9. Dean Lamonby finished in 4th place and collected £205 (Dusk Till Dawn fund). Deano had his pocket 10's cracked by Ian Arnold (A,K) but he will be happy with his cash and his first live points of 2011. Knowing Deano, he will probably go on a run making consecutive final tables. Well played The Carlisle Brat (although you were very quiet yesterday!). 3rd place and £305 went to Mark Atkinson. This should cover his expenses for his trip to Martin Wishart's restaurant on the Port of Leith, Edinburgh. 25 year old Brandy doesn't come cheap, but I do admire your style. Mark exited when he made a move with Q,2 and ran into pocket 9's held by Ian Arnold. 2nd place and a second consecutive cash for David Symes who finished 3rd in last month's £100 Super Stack event collecting £600. This time Sykes collected £425* and after picking up over £1000 from Northern Poker Stars live events in one month, will undoubtedly endorse our events. Well played mate. Our winner collecting £765*, Ian Arnold. This is the freshest looking and the most sober Arny that I have ever seen at one of our events, although to be honest, he didn't drink the night before because he was feeling ill. *The top two players agreed on a chop at heads-up with both players walking away with £595 each. Our next live event at The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle will be held on Sunday 17th April, 2pm start.

A total of 38 players contested our first £100 Super Stack event of 2011. Thanks to the 18 that travelled through from the West, and hopefully the Carlisle players will show their appreciation by venturing to the Haven Club for the next event on Sunday 6th March. This is a very good turnout, considering the G Casino Blackpool only had 55 runners for their monthly £100 event at the end of January 2011. Some new faces arrived at the Ukrainian Club, for the bigger prizepool, in the form of Steve Bragg, John Ferguson and Ben Greenslade. Both John and Ben went on to make the final table. John went out in 10th place when AI pre-flop with A,J v A,K held by David Symes (Sykes). Ben was 7th, when he pushed with 8,8 and was called by Matt Holliday holding A,7. Matt spiked an A on the flop and it was off to The Time Bar for Ben. There were second consecutive final table appearances for; Chris Dodd (9th - A,2 v 4,4 Sean Dixon), Alan Hewson (8th - K,6 v Q,Q Sean Dixon) and Stu Beattie. The final table was bossed by both Sykes and Matt Holliday who between them had most of the chips in play. These two were determined to take the tournament down and they clashed several times with Matt eventually coming out on top in the two hands that cost Sykes all of his chips. Sean Dixon collected £340 for his 5th place finish losing with A,8 v 10,10 Stu Beattie. Stu Beattie (4th) collected £450 when he lost with A,K to 10,10 held by Sykes. Sykes (3rd) cashed for a cool £600 when he ran A,7 into A,K held by Matt Holliday. Dean Winder finished in second place (£860) but was offered £1000 by Matt Holliday when heads-up, which he readily accepted. Matt Holliday, who stated that he was going to take the event down at the start of the final table was our winner. Matt refused to chop when we were down to 4 players and his determination paid off. £1500 to our winner. That will buy a few whisky's at Dusk Till Dawn Dude? The top 5 players each contributed £25 of their winnings to the bubble, Paul Christian who went out in 6th place after pushing with J,10 and was called blind on blind by Matt Holliday holding K,J. Our next live event at The Ukrainian Club will be the £50 Deep Stack Freezeout on Sunday 20th March.

35 players contested our first live event of 2011 in Carlisle with 9 players from the West making the journey through to The Ukrainian Club. Up for grabs was a total prizepool of £1700. It's good to see the numbers on the rise again in Carlisle and hopefully it won't be too long until the number of runners is up to that of what I expect in Whitehaven this year, with £1000+ payouts to the winners. A very enjoyable day of poker with the old school (Alan Hewson, Mark Atkinson, Johnny Stedman) facing some stiff competiton from the "new kids on the block" (Chris Dodd and Danny Black). The final table was littered with familiar faces, (Mark Atkinson, Ian Arnold, Johnny Stedman, and Alan Hewson) with a couple of young pretenders making it into the elite ten. Kevin Orr has started the year making final tables in our first events in Whitehaven (live) and Carlisle (live as well as our first online league tournament. He was joined on the final table by a fellow West Cumbrian, Chris "Moylesy" Cowley who turned out to be the Best of the West on the day. The top four cashed, but all contributed £20 each to "the bubble," Alan Hewson. 4th place, Garry Duguid who hasn't played for a while because of work commitments, cashed for the sum of £205. 3rd place, Will Wharton, one of my Nottingham Dudes picked up £305. 2nd place, Stuart Beattie collected £425 and our winner Chris Dodd cashed for £765. New poker was the winner on the day. The top three actually made a deal with the aforementioned sums totalling £1495 and this was split equally three ways. The ominous sign for everyone is that the current Champion, Johnny Stedman is once again amongst the points. Our next live event @ The Ukrainian Club will be on Sunday 20th February and this will be our 15k Super Stack Freeze Out (entry £100 + £12). I expect a lot of interest for this event.

A total of 26 players turned out for October's £30 Double Chance Event. There were some new faces in the seats, Frazer Martin (who made an excellent laydown folding pocket Jacks against pocket Kings), Shaun Kidson (who I unfortunately never got to see play), and Timmy Dobson (who I only came across on the cash table and he will raise with any two!). A total of 6 players turned up from the West, and two of them went on to make the final ten. My heart goes out to Mike "All-In" Chambers, who at one stage had over 20k in chips, but lost them all with a rush of blood to the head or could that be the vodka chasers kicking in??? Well played "All-In", you are definately value for money at these tournaments and a joy to see in action. I have to mention my early exit in 14th place, if only for one reason.. Chris Fairclough. I was AI pre-flop with A,K v 4,4 against Gary Hill. I hit my King on the flop to give me the lead, only for Mr. Fairclough to pray for a 4 to knock me out. This all stems back to the fact that I have sent him to the rail in previous NPS tournaments and he is not in the same league as me (Ok, you won the Big One!). Inevitablely the 4 came and I was sent packing to a big roar.. Cheers :-( The next NPS £30 Double Chance Event @ The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle will be held on Sunday 21st November, 2pm start.

A total of 34 players turned up and witnessed Sunday's new format produce a whopping £1890 in prize money. Of the 34 players, 9 players made their way from the West and 2 of those 9 made the final table, (Ken Johnston and John Goodwin). There was a return for a few old stalwarts in Colin Rhodes, Baz Curle and David Symes, who was very unlucky in losing out when his pocket Kings made a set only to lose out to the nut flush having come up against pocket Aces. There were a few new players, namely Amy Labram, Neil Coupland and Neil Scott, with the latter going on to final table. Another player to return to the event was one of my very own CPM's (Carlisle Poker Maglems), Roy Holliday. Roy, as he keeps telling everyone, has a WSOP ranking having cashed in the WSOP many moons ago. He delivered again, by cashing today. The final table action saw Paul Griffiths going out in 10th place for a second consecutive NPS live tournament @ Carlisle. He ran J,J into Q,Q. Ken Johnston finished 9th. After taking a couple of bad beats and finding himself short stacked, he pushed with A,8 and ran into Mark (The Tournament Director Slayer) Atkinson holding A,Q. Mark Simpson was our next casualty in 8th place running A,K (well you didn't expect it to be 7,2 o/s surely?) into pocket Aces. One of our new players, Neil Scott finished in 7th place after pushing with A,9 to be called by pocket 6's. Mike Martin, just back from Iraq was our 6th place finisher when low stacked he pushed with 7,8 and was sent packing by A,Q. The bubble was Gary Hill (5th), although the remaining players all put £20 in each and Gary walked away with £80. The remaining four players split the prizepool, walking away with £460 each after tipping Irene (the final table dealer) £12.50 each. Our next live event at The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle will be on Sunday 19th August, (THIRD SUNDAY OF THE MONTH.. SURELY YOU KNOW BY NOW!) 2pm start. I will not be here as I am away on holiday, but there will be a far better looking Tournament Director, who will not make a farce of the raffle. Please be fair to Johno, (as he has to travel from the West to run this event) by booking your seats in advance so that he knows how many players will be in the field. Check out the homepage for details of the Las Vegas Qualifiers due to hit Carlisle and Whitehaven in October.

A total of 20 players contested the NPS £30 Double Chance event in Carlisle on Sunday, raising £60 for the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" appeal. This was a poor turnout from the Carlisle contingent, with 6 players traveling through from the West and me making up the 20. This was a bad turnout. Moving on it was nice to see Chucky Roberts down for his first NPS event, (I'm expecting big things from this young lad and Johno was impressed with his play too) but it was a shame he was knocked out by his pal Danny Black, not to worry though as I've been informed they where 50-50. Another new player was Nicky Jefferson who impressed and made the final table. The day started as a freeroll for most people as Mike "All-In" Chambers was giving away money in side bets on how he would outlast every one. Well "All-In" was cheering when he won his first side bet by lasting longer than Gary Hill, but I'm afraid he did not last longer than Arny , Johno, Tiger and myself, to finish the day well down on his side bets. Thanks CHAMBO, same again next time I hope? The final table consisted 2 from the West in Johno and our NPS CHAMPION, CHRIS FAIRCLOUGH. This guy is taking all the money from Carlisle and treating himself to a Lamborghini drive in Vegas. Well played again Chris. Well played Mike Martin in taking down your first NPS event. I CAN'T see you taking another one down in the near future with the way you play your 7s,4c, but it's up to you to prove me wrong!! Good luck to all those travelling to VEGAS on Wednesday. I've got a side bet on Arny not getting out of Fletch's. The next event in Carlisle is on Sunday 18th July, 2pm start and hopefully by this time our numbers will have picked back up and we will be WORLD CUP WINNERS. Paul "LAMCHOP" Lamonby.

A total of 36 players turned out for the event in Carlisle on Sunday. They raised another £108 for CFM Radio's Cash For Kids appeal. Once again the field had a good turnout from the guys from the West. There were several new players from Carlisle, the Irving brothers Stuart and Chris, Ian Hebson, Dale Craik and Jordon Fleary (with whom I was impressed with and he deservedly went on to cash). The day started of with the Johno, aka Nottingham's No1, as he now likes to be called, getting his A,A cracked off Stuart Beattie's pocket 5's, which went on to improve to quads, by the river. Nottingham's No1, made the laydown of the day when in bb (600) he was raised to 2400 by Will Wharton. Alan Hewson then jammed for a further 800 and Johno folded A,K. Will Wharton called and flipped A,K. Alan Hewson turned over.... A,K! (Julie is a cruel dealer). By the river Will had hit four clubs to match his Kc for a flush. Early action on another table saw Tiger and All-In go at it hammer and tongue. They had been given a lift to Carlisle by Johno and he described them as being like Statler and Waldorf (the two old geeezers from the Muppet Show) such was their performance on the way through to Carlisle. They had their usual bet of £20 on who would go deepest in the tournament (we all want a piece of that All-In!) and upon winning, Tiger made one of his world famous quotes, "Make a sound like a £40 note!" There was a switch from dealing to playing for Anne Weatherston and Dee Johnstone. Anne was celebrating her birthday and made the final table, even after taking a bad beat early on, at the hands of Kevin Smith. The final table was a close match with three players from the West, with two of them being very tight in Fletch and Goodnight and one of them who could talk you to sleep in Tiger! Mark Simpson, Mike Martin and Sean Dixon were all making consecutive final table appearances and our fantastic dealers, Anne and Dee proved that they can play as well as deal. The top six players cashed. Our next event @ the Ukrainian Club, will be the Northern Poker Stars Championship on Saturday 12th June - DON"T MISS THIS ONE!

A total of 33 players helped to raise £99 for CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal. Of this total, 11 players were from the West. Only a poor 22 players from Carlisle could make it, and once again a few players that had reserved seats failed to show. This is embarrassing when we are only getting a 2:1 ratio over players that are willing to travel through from the West. We did however see a new player from Carlisle in Jack Barnsdale and Andrew Reynolds made the trip through from the West for the first time and only his second NPS tournament. Well played guys. In the absence of Ian "Boom Boom" Arnold, I thought I would be in for an quiet day, but that was to be untrue, your crown has now gone Arny and you have been replaced by a new poker brat, Will "The Hulk" MacGillivray. The Hulk suffered some bad beats and his frustration was clearly showing. His A,K ran into A,J only for two Jacks to appear on the flop, and the bulk of The Hulk's stack went to his close pal Kevin Smith. After trying to kick the door off it's hinges and a speedy exit outside to throw a few cars about, The Hulk returned to see if he could salvage his day with his remaining 4500 chips. He turned green and ultra-aggressive, and several minutes later was AI with K,J. He got a caller from a man who will not be bullied and has even threatened to knockout Warrior, the ex-Gladiator. Tiger Tyson flipped K,9. The 9 on flop was bad, Woof Woof and The Hulk was barking mad, then the knife was twisted, when The Hulk hit a Jack on the turn, only to give The Tiger the backdoor flush. The Hulk was sent packing and the building was shaking after the slam of doors!! The Tiger then said, "I shouldn't have called really, I only had K,9!" The Carlisle players made their numerical advantage show on the final table with only 2 Westies making it. Those two players, Chris Fairclough and Stephen "Tiger" Tyson crashed out in 10th & 9th respectively, both losing in the same hand to Johnny Stedman. Johnny "Coot" Stedman has now made 5 from 5 final tables @ Carlisle and surely must be No1-in-waiting. Cooty and Matt Holliday went at the final table like wounded animals, taking out a total of 7 players between them. Kevin Smith took down the tournament and I have to admit that I thought Deano could hit cards, until I met this lad. He hit two, runner, runner flushes on the final table to cripple Johnny Stedman heads-up. Well played all. The next NPS Live Tournament @ The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle, will be held on Sunday 16th May, at our new start time of 2pm. Hopefully more players from Carlisle will turn-up this time after it was seen that the players from the West, can be beaten!

37 players helped to raise a fantastic sum of £431 for the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" appeal. Thanks to you all. This will be added to my Kilimanjaro fund. We have found a new public enemy number 1 - The Farmer. More on that shortly. Once again we have had a handful of players reserving seats and failing to show. Those that did so have now lost their privilege of being able to reserve seats. If you wish to enter future events, then you must either pay in advance or pay £40 on the day. I will once again remind players that after the Wednesday before the event, all seating will be at self-deal tables. Finally after the Friday before the event all seats will be charged at £40. There will be no exceptions to this., so don't ask the dealers to text me, and don't go into the venue to pay £30. Unless either Paul or myself knows that you are coming, then you will have to pay £40 on the day. The final table was dominated, and I mean DOMINATED by players from the West. Seven out of ten players were from West Cumbria. I will give much credit to Mike Martin and Kev Smith for making the final table at their first live NPS event. Kev was unlucky to finish on the bubble when AI pre-flop with pocket Jack's only to run into the Farmer's pocket King's. Unlucky Dude. for the fourth consecutive live NPS event @ Carlisle, Johnny Stedman has made the final table and hence is currently top of the leaderboard for the NPS Live Tournament Player of the Year - Carlisle. Excellent poker AGAIN Johnny! Hot on his tail is our Manchester Master winner, Ian Tweedie, who just 24 hours after taking apart the field @ the Circus Casino in Manchester to win the Master Main Event, he made his third final table at Carlisle. Well Done Joeboy. Paul Christian, "fletched" his way to his first final table at Carlisle and was very unlucky to go out with Big Slick in a three way AI pre-flop battle against Joeboy (A,10 suited) and Farmer (A, Q) with the Farmer dispatching of both Paul and Ian after he spiked a Q. The top five players cashed with Chris "Better Late Than Never" Fairclough, (fifth place) taking more money away from a Carlisle tournament. Paul Wallace form Silloth, was another victim of the Farmer, but played well and cashed in fourth place. Stephen "Tiger" Tyson, who promised to buy me a new suit, if he won, was another victim of the Farmer and finished in third. As usual the Tiger left something behind at the "Uranium" Club. Don't worry, I have got them. Barry "Socks" Willcocks who was gobsmacked to be playing against drunken baffoons, stood very little chance in a heads-up clash with the Farmer, when he was up against over 300,000 chips with his stack just over 30k. Three hands of heads-up play and it was all over. Chris "Farmer" Campbell, was our winner. I never saw him lose a race all day, even when he was behind and down to a two-outer. He didn't win many friends with his style of play or his luck, but he did win a very handsome sum of money. Afterward the Farmer declared that his victory was "easy" and that he "didn't even break sweat", although anyone that does when playing poker needs to go and see their doctor. We will be back at Carlisle on the third Sunday of every month, with our next live event being held on Sunday 18th April, 1:30pm start. Can the Carlisle players please put up a fight? Later Dudes!

40 players contested our third £30 Double Chance tournament @ Carlisle. Although I am not unduly worried about the drop in numbers, (because of the clash with the weekend of; the G Casino Blackpool Deepstack, The Carling Cup Final, and The Rugby League World Club Challange), what does concern me is that five players that had reserved seats, failed to show. I had to bring a dealer through from West Cumbria to work and when these players failed to show, this meant that there was no call for her to be there. I will again state that any player that reserves a seat for these events, and fails to show, is liable to pay the entry fee. Northern Poker Stars is a business and I expect you to show me the appropriate dignity. I would hope that all the players that failed to show will pass on the entry fee to Paul Lamonby, and I will donate it to the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal. Those players that attended helped to raise £450 for our nominated charity. Thanks to you all. Only 24 hours after Stephen "Tiger" Tyson scored a hat-trick at the G Casino Blackpool, (first player out in the £100 Deepstack, first player out £45 Triple Chance, and the first Northern Poker Stars player to be thrown out of the casino), I suffered a similar fate. Just to pacify Deano, I will openly admit that I was the first player out in the NPS £30 Double Chance Event. I am not enjoying poker at the minute. I am taking bad beat after bad beat after bad beat and can't remember the last time I won a race. This early exit, was more down to bad play, when on reflection I should have folded. An early indication of the kind of day I was going to have was when I declared a straight, when I had a run of four cards! Moving on. A quarter of the field was made up of West Cumbria's and I had big hopes after Ian Tweedie and Chris Fairclough were among the BIG winners at the Blackpool Deepstack only 24 hours earlier. The chances of this started to diminish when I saw the cash table was up and running. All six players were from West Cumbria. The final table saw David Symes going out in 10th place after his trip Jacks were bust on the river by John Goodwin hitting a straight whilst holding A,Q. Shaun Dixon finished in 9th place, when he pushed his short stack onto the felt. His 7,6 failed to improve and the A,Q of Daniel Lewthwaite held up. Colin Rhodes, who was on my table from the start (and was very short stacked early in the event, so played some excellent poker to make the final table), finished in 8th place when his pocket 10's were rivered by A,Q, river bringing a Q. Daniel then went out in 7th place after his A,9 was beat by K,Q, with the Q again showing up on the river. 6th place finisher Barry Curle, decided to pick on John Goodwin, and made a move with Q,2, only to find John Goodwin holding pocket Aces! 5th place, and in the cash, Gareth Beattie in his first NPS tournament, pushed AI with pocket 7's and John Goodwin holding pocket 8's took the pot. 4th place, Stuart Graham went AI with 9,8 v K,Q of Paul Wallace, and the K paired sending Stuart out. 3rd place, Johnny Stedman making his third consecutive final table appearance at the NPS £30 Double Chance events @ Carlisle, went AI pre-flop with John Goodwin. Johnny held J,10 and John held 9,8. John finished with a full house. We were now heads-up and after half an hour of play, the players decided on a chop. We played out for our winner and the man that dominated the final table, John Goodwin, sent Paul Wallace out after his hammer hand (7,2) paired the 2 to defeat Paul's A,6. The winner John Goodwin, is from West Cumbria, so normal service has resumed... Goodnight!

It was bound to happen.. EVENTUALLY! The Carlisle boys are victorious in their own backyard. Before we get carried away, let's look at the facts. It was your home venue. There was a player ratio of 6:1 Carlisle:West Cumbria. Roy Cropper took me out and he is in my team for next week's Team Championship, thus proving that the players from the West are impartial. 75 players contested yesterday's prizepool. Northern Poker Stars have again donated all of the £3 admission charges from every player, to the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal, giving this FANTASTIC charity another £225. Thanks to all of you for this. The final table was dominated by Carlisle players with the exception of Ian "Joeboy" Tweedie. Ian of course hails from Whitehaven and is part of the Stars of Northern Poker team that aims to triumph in Carlisle on Sunday 7th February. Ian is so confident that our team will finish above the CPM team, (none of which were anywhere near the final table), that he has staked £300 of his hard earned poker bankroll on the result. He will be looking forward to relieving "the scrawny kid from Carlisle," Deano "The Mouth" Lamonby of his sweet money. Joeboy asked Deano to put his money where his mouth is, (that's why the stakes are so high) and credit to Carlisle's No.59, he has, but rumour has it that he has laid the bet off amongst six of his team mates! Not much confidence there then? Right back to today's event, I would like to thank The Ukrainian Club and the poker players of Carlisle for welcoming NPS. I am sure that we will see many friendships arising between the players from across the county, as well as some fierce rivalries. I witnessed some impressive play on my table yesterday. The aggression of Ian Clark and the read that Will Wharton made on me, spring to mind. The top nine players cashed yesterday, with Stuart Telford finishing on "The Bubble." The final hand saw Barry Curle and Dayle Foster both AI pre-flop with Barry's A,K holding up against Dayle's A,6, although neither player improved. Dayle walked away with over £600 and our winner, Barry took home over £1000 (yes Mrs Curle, over £1000). Thanks to all our dealers from Carlisle, Hannah and Mark from Kendal and our tournament director Paul, (the better looking of the Lamonby brothers). Thanks again to all the players that attended the event. I hope you all enjoy the poker provided by NPS and we cannot wait to give you Las Vegas qualifiers, GUKPT qualifiers, PokerStars UKIPT qualifiers and our NPS Championship. From March 2010, the £30 Double Chance events in Carlisle will be held on the third Sunday of every month and our start time is changing to 1:30pm. The new start time will take effect from our next tournament in Carlisle on Sunday 28th February. Any Carlisle players that wish to test themselves in Whitehaven, our next tournament at The Haven Club will be held on Sunday 21st February 2010, 3pm start. From March, all the £30 Double Chance events in Whitehaven will be held on the first Sunday in the month, with a start time of 3pm. This will not apply to April's event in Whitehaven which I am forced to switch because of a prior booking. Full details will be available shortly. Thanks again Carlisle. Please check out the leaderboard for your current standings after our second event in your backyard. See you next week, and have our money ready please Deano and Lammy. Later Dudes!

90 players and a total prizepool of £3655. This is what Cumbria has been waiting for. This is poker brought to you by Northern Poker Stars. Added to this, Northern Poker Stars have donated the £3 admission fee paid by every player to CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal. That is another £275 that we have raised for this fantastic charity. Well done to all of you. 11 players finished in the money. They were; 11th place, Richard Little (£65). 10th place, Daniel Lewthwaite (£100). 9th place, John Cowan (£110). 8th place, Gordan Richardson (£140). 7th place, Shaun Graham (£170). 6th place, Dean Lamonby (£230). 5th place, Sean Forsyth (£270). 4th place, Mike McKenzie (£300). 3rd place, Matt Holliday (£430). 2nd place, Johnny Stedman (£740). 1st place, Ian Tweedie (£1100). This is the largest payout ever in a live poker tournament in Cumbria. I predict that the next event @ the Ukrainian Club, Carlisle on Sunday 31st January 2010 will be a sell-out. The only way that you can guarantee your seat, is to pay in advance. Please contact either Paul Lamonby (07515 912959) or Ken Johnston (07860 697204) for full details. Many thanks to the fifteen West Cumbrian's that made the journey to Carlisle for this event. TT finished in 5th falling to Joeboy, who then took out the remaining three Carlisle players. It seems to me that the gauntlet has been thrown down. If any of the Carlisle players would like to take on the "Best of the West" @ the Haven Club, on Sunday 17th January 2010, please contact either Paul or Ken. P.S. We don't all play like "Mad Mike" "All-In" Chambers!
