21 players contested our the February NPS Double Chance event in West Cumbria. Thanks to the Carlisle Trio, Alan Hewson, Luke Cameron and Chris Dodd for travelling through for this event. When the seating draw was made and I found Chris to my immediate left, I expected a tough day. We had an early departure in John Goodwin who ended up AI on the first hand and then declined to take his double chance and promptly left. The final table saw consecutive appearances from Alan Hewson, Kevin Orr, Sean Forsyth and Jeff Cass. Sean ended up being "the bubble" when he jammed pre-flop with A,Q and ran into A,K in the bb held by Mike Hawkins. However TT walked away with a consolation of £60. 3 handed play saw Billy Morgan with a commanding chip lead, but Jeff Cass, who was looking for back-to-back victories, set about destroying this lead. Jeff was very active and his aggressive style had both Billy and Mike on the back foot. This came to an end when Jeff jammed from sb into Billy and it was A,8 v A,9 with Billy The Kid holding the superior hand. This held up and Jeff left in 3rd place with £195. We only had to wait a few more hands for our winner. After some pre-flop action, the low board saw Mike Hawkins jam and was called by Billy Morgan holding pocket Kings. The game was over by the turn and Mike collected £290 for his play with Billy Morgan winning his first NPS tournament and adding £490 to his bankroll. Well played Bingo Billy. Our next £25 Double Chance event will feature Neil Channing and Jamie Burland @ The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle on Saturday 25th February, 7pm start. We will be back to our usual slot on the fourth Sunday of each month @ Lowca ARL Club from Sunday 25th March, 2pm start. Later Dudes!

Winner: JEFF CASS
Results: 1st, Jeff Cass. 2nd, Sean Forsyth. 3rd, Chris Glen. 4th, Ken Johnston. 5th, Alan Hewson. 6th, Kevin Orr. 7th, Ryan Colaluca. 8th, Luke Cameron. 9th, Scott Chambers. 10th, Adrian Gate.
Raffle Winner: Chris Cowley
24 players contested our first NPS £25 Double Chance event of 2012 in West Cumbria. There were a few new faces amongst the ranks and one of these in particular, Brian Smith, was here to get in some practice before his Vegas trip next month. Best of luck Brian. The final table was dominated by some good young players, Adrian Gate, Scott Chambers, Luke Cameron, Kevin Orr and then there was Wolf.. Ryan Colaluca. It was nice to see Chris Glen back at the tables after his sabbatical. It was even nicer to see that he didn't win the raffle which is generally the standard, however he did go on to cash. Thanks to the lads that travelled through from Carlisle, Luke Cameron and Alan Hewson, both of whom went on to final table. Also from Carlisle was Gary Hill. He arrived late and finished early. Ken Johnston was the bubble, after getting it AI with A,3 v K,Q held by Jeff Cass. He was duly 'Julied' and collected a compensation of £60 to add to his wedding fund. This was the first of three consecutive hands that decided the upper echelon of the tournament. The very next hand saw Chris Glen depart in 3rd place collecting £195 when he jammed pre-flop with K,J and was called by Jeff Cass holding J,10. Chris was also "Julied" but was happy to cash after his absence from the game. The remaining two players, Sean forsyth and Jeff Cass, who just happened to be the joint wooden-spooners from the West Cumbria Live League 2011 and the best of friends (tongue-in-cheek, read the write-up from our West Cumbria Live Tournament on 4th December 2011) chopped the remaining £780 and played one hand for the tournament victory. Jeff got it in ahead with his rag hand against Sean's rag hand and Jeff was NOT "Julied." Well played everyone. Our next £25 Double Chance event @ Lowca ARL Club will be held on SUNDAY 12TH FEBRUARY, 2PM START - N.B. Digger.. 2pm start NOT 3pm. Later Dudes!

Winner: KEN JOHNSTON :)
Results: 1st, Ken Johnston. 2nd, Mike Hawkins. 3rd, Luke Cameron. 4th, Kevin Orr. 5th, Alan Hewson. 6th, Lee Anderson. 7th, Jeff Cass. 8th, Stuart Hoskin. 9th, Ryan Colaluca. 10th, Ron Wilkinson.
Raffle Winner: Gary Hill
When 24 players sat down to contest our final league tournament this meant that there were two issues to be decided. Firstly it meant that John Wilkinson who was sat in 3rd place in the league could not overtake Kevin Orr or Paul Christian to win the league, but could he maintain his league position, fighting off the challenge from Ken Johnston, John Goodwin and his brother Ron Wilkinson? The second and ultimately main issue was the straight shootout for the title between Paul "Fletch" Christian and Kevin Orr. Fletch held a 10 point lead going into the event, which meant that if he made the final table, then he could not be caught. Kevin needed to final table and for Fletch to go out before the points to be crowned league winner. This is the only tournament this year when I have seen Kevin play tight. In fact he was playing as tight as Fletch, which is air tight! Sean "TT" Forsyth was our first casualty when he got his Kings bust by a "lucky" rivered nut flush held by Jeff Cass. First out and the winner of the wooden spoon for finishing joint last in the league for our former league winner. Actually, he shared the wooden spoon.. With Jeff Cass.. The irony of it all. 15 players had gone when the first of the issues took a decisive swing. John Wilkinson had raised from early position and was faced with a jam by Ken Johnston. Next to act was Stephen Brough with also went AI, as did another short stack, John Goodwin and then it was Ron Wilkinson to act in the bb. Ron pondered for what seemed like an age and eventually folded. John Wilkinson called Ken's jam and it was cards on the back's time. John Wilkinson - A,K, Ken Johnston - J,J, Stephen Brough - A, Q, John Goodwin 10,10. John Wilkinson flopped a K and it looked like 3rd place was guaranteed for him, until Ken hit a J on the river to give him a set. Stephen Brough and John Goodwin were out and therefore it was Goodnight for Goodnight's hopes of a medal finish, and John Wilkinson was now down to 6 bb's. The NPS Champion 2011 was now sitting with one of the big stacks in the event and was looking good to win his second trophy of the year. However John Wilkinson still had chips and Ron Wilkinson was still dangerous. A few hands later, John Wilkinson was out and that meant it was between Ron and Ken for the bronze medal. Ron needed to win the event and for Ken to fail to make the final table. A few hands later, Ron made a raise of Ken's bb, which is a common occurrence as he thinks Ken is tight. It was folded round to Ken who jammed with A,3 suited and was snapped called by Ron holding the Bullets. Ron doubled up and it was game on. Great play Ron. The very next hand however, Ken got all his chips back with interest when he re-raised an initial raise from the button by a rather boozy Stephen "Tiger" Tyson. Luke Cameron in the bb was left with a painful decision (he later revealed that he was holding A,Q) and whilst he was stewing, The Tiger threw the gauntlet down to The Champ by announcing that he was all in if it was just him and Ken. This challenge was taken up by Ken and perhaps this was the reason that Luke folded? And so it came to pass that Tiger turned A,Q and Ken showed A,K and Tiger was sent to the cash table. With only 13 players left and with Fletch clinging on to his short stack in his usual frugal fashion, Kevin Orr raised and was subject to a jam by the ever solid Lee Anderson. Kevin called but easily had Lee covered and they both turned big slick and ended up with the inevitable split. It was only then that Kevin realised that had he bust Lee out, then he was making it more favourable for Fletch to reach the final table. What a dilemma! The next player out made it somewhat easier for... Kevin. Fletch had jammed short stack from the button with a rag ace and Alan Hewson in the bb looked at his first card. He saw a Queen and announced that he had to call. He then turned his other card and revealed ANOTHER Queen... Fletch was gone and Kevin had to outlast only one more player to win the league. Gary Hill shortly departed and Kevin had made the final table making him the Northern Poker Stars West Cumbria 2011 Player of the Year. I predicted at the start of the year that this Young Gun would win a trophy this year. He was unlucky not to win the Carlisle title but looking back, he can see that he was too aggressive in the penultimate tournament and that is probably what cost him the title in Carlisle. He was the leader on the final day and was overtaken by Alan Hewson but still finished runner-up. Today he came from behind to overtake Paul Christian and to lift the title. Congratulations Kev. I think you realise that today showed you that playing a less aggressive style and it can work for you. Is this the new you? Commiserations to Paul Christian who almost made it back to back title victories for the title in West Cumbria, only to fall at the final hurdle. Also making the final table was Ken Johnston and this guaranteed him third place in the West Cumbria league, adding another trophy to his victory in the Northern Poker Stars Championship 2011. The top three players were to cash for £230 (3rd), £345 (2nd) and £575 (1st). After the departure of Alan Hewson in 5th place (the highest placed Carlisle player in the West Cumbria league and more importantly, the NPS Carlisle Player of the Year 2011) we were down to the final four players of Mike Hawkins, Ken Johnston, Kevin Orr and Luke Cameron. Only Mike was sitting comfortable in chips and there was much to-ing and fro-ing of chips between Kevin, Luke and Ken. The bubble eventually burst when Ken (10,10) called Kevin's (K,2) jam. Kevin only had 3bb's and was unlucky to run into such a big hand. Lynda our final table dealer in the absence of Julie ""kept it clean." Our newly crowned West Cumbria POY walked away with the title and £20 from each of the remaining players. Luke Cameron was to finish in third place when he fell to Ken's J,J when he shoved with A, 9 hearts. Despite hitting a 9 on the flop, Lynda "kept it clean again" and gave Ken a rivered flush. Excellent play again Luke and back-to-back final tables in Whitehaven. This is perhaps the place to play your poker? Heads-up was a new experience at a NPS tournament for Mike Hawkins and this was his first ever cash at an NPS event. He eventually fell to Ken but he was very happy with his payday. It was refreshing to see two players go for it with no mention of a chop. Very well played Mike. Our winner.. Ken Johnston.. And so it continues.. That's it for our live league tournaments for 2011 in both Carlisle and Whitehaven. Both titles have been decided and we are back next year with a new £25 Double Chance format and a new blind structure giving you even more value for your money. I would like to thank all the Carlisle players that have travelled through to Whitehaven month after month and to all the players for supporting Northern Poker Stars. Merry Christmas to you all and I wish you all the Best Of Luck for 2012 at the tables. Still to be decided are the NPS Online League and the NPS Team Championship and I want a third trophy in 2011, perhaps even a fourth.. Later Dudes!

Winner: ALAN HEWSON
Results: 1st, Alan Hewson. 2nd, Barry Curle. 3rd, Paul Glaister. 4th, Ryan Colaluca. 5th, Shane Padley. 6th, Mark Barlow. 7th, Mike Hawkins. 8th, Luke Cameron. 9th, Paul Christian. 10th, Chris Cowley.
Raffle Winner: Paul Glaister
33 players contested our latest live tournament in West Cumbria at our new venue, Lowca ARL Club. This was our penultimate live event of the year in West Cumbria and the title of Player of the Year was still up for grabs. John Wilkinson who is sitting in third place was an early casualty and wouldn't make any ground up on either Paul Christian or Kevin Orr. The leader going into this event, Kevin Orr failed to make the final table after his pocket 10's were bust by A,K held by Mark Barlow. That left the door open for Paul Christian and as is the tight style of Fletch, he folded his way onto the final table and into the points and is now the man to beat with one live event remaining. There were 6 players on the final table that collected their first points of the year, Chris Cowley (10th), Luke Cameron (8th), Mike Hawkins (7th), Mark Barlow (6th), Ryan Colaluca (4th and a cash of £190) and Paul Glaister (3rd). This tournament will always be remembered for the Carlisle 1, 2, 3. Paul Glaister who had already won the raffle after I persuaded him to part with £1 for a ticket and in doing so has £30 off his next NPS live seat, finished third. Barry Curle was our runner-up after yet another solid performance when he had been card dead for most of the event. Our winner, the ever present and very popular Alan Hewson. After a rather intoxicated Ryan Colaluca had decided to donk off his sizeable chipstack and went out in fourth place, the three Carlilse players chopped the remaining prizepool with Paul Glaister receiving £410 and Barry Curle and Alan Hewson picking up £500 each. Well played Dudes and a very nice gesture to chop considering the size of your chipstack Alan. One event left on Sunday 4th December @ Lowca ARL Club, 2pm start. Who will be crowned NPS West Cumbria Live Tournament Player of the Year? Later Dudes!

Winner: JOHN WILKINSON
Results: 1st, John Wilkinson. 2nd, Billy Morgan. 3rd, Ian Tweedie. 4th, Ron Wilkinson. 5th, Alan Hewson. 6th, Barry Curle. 7th, Mike Farrer. 8th, Maurice Wigham. 9th, Sean Forsyth. 10th, Ken Johnston.
Raffle Winner: Gary Hill
26 players contested our first tournament at our new venue and I am sure all the players will agree that Lowca ARL Club is a fantastic home for Northern Poker Stars live events. Thanks to the 6 players that travelled through from Carlisle with 2 of these going on to make the final table. It was the first final table of the year for Sean (TT) Forsyth and in doing so has collected his first points of the season and now sits proudly at the bottom of the Whitehaven league. Only 2 more live events for you to change this statistic TT. It was also the first live final table of the year in Whitehaven for Maurice Wigham which is a surprising fact considering the cashes he has had in the casino's across Europe. Our 2 Carlisle players fell just short of the cash with Barry Curle finishing in 6th place and the REDHOT Alan Hewson (3 live tournament wins this week) finishing in 5th place. We were then left with the Three Amigo's (Ian Tweedie, Ron Wilkinson and their adopted brother John Wilkinson) and Billy Morgan. In his own word's, it was "Billy against the world," but he had plenty of support from the rails. I was dying to see a heads-up clash between the Wilkinson brothers to see who really is the better poker player, but I also didn't want to see Billy finish with without a good payday. As it turned out, Ron Wilkinson was "the bubble," after being sent to the rails by Billy Morgan, but he collected £20 from each of the remaining 3 players. Just a few hands later, we had a 3 way AI with John Wilkinson (short stack) holding pocket 9's, Ian Tweedie (second in chips) holding A, 8 suited and Billy Morgan (chip leader) holding A, Q. Ian missed his flush, and Billy spiked a Q only for the turn to give John a set. Ian was out and we were heads-up with John being the chip leader. John saw out the win when his K, J beat Billy's A, 8 after calling Billy's 4 bet jam. 3rd place, Ian Tweedie - £250. 2nd place, Billy Morgan £375. 1st place, John Wilkinson £625. This victory moves John up into third place in our race for the NPS Live Tournament Champion 2011 - West Cumbria. Kevin Orr continues to lead but must be getting worried after being busted out first in this event and his failure to collect any points in our live events since March 2011. Paul Christian remains in second place and with two events to go, this is going all the way to the wire. Our next live event in Whitehaven will be our £50 Deep Stack Freeze Out on Sunday 6th November 2011 @ The Lowca ARL Club, Lowca, 2pm start. Later Dudes!

Winner: KEVIN STEWARD
Results: 1st, Kevin Steward. 2nd, Lee Anderson. 3rd, Chris Fairclough. 4th, Sean King. 5th, Stephen Tyson. 6th, Ken Johnston. 7th, Shane Padley. 8th, John Goodwin. 9th, Ian Tweedie. 10th, Ron Wilkinson.
Raffle Winner: Paul Haig
26 players contested our first live tournament in Whitehaven since June. Thanks to all that came along to The P&M Club, Greenbank, Whitehaven, and a warm welcome to Chris Cristea who played his first live NPS event and will be back for more. With Paul Christian away on holiday, this was Kevin Orr's chance to open up a very substantial gap at the top of the leaderboard in the race for the NPS Live Tournament Player of the Year - West Cumbria, but as is typical in these stuations, Kevin went out in 12th place and it was as you were for the top two. There is a host of players closing in on both Kevin and Paul with only four points separating the next five places. It makes for a very interesting close to the year. The final table saw five new players making their first final tables in Whitehaven this year. They were Shane Padley, Sean King, Kev Steward, Chris Fairclough the NPS Championship winner 2010 and the very entertaining Stephen "The Tiger" Tyson, who educated the table by declaring that the official language of Belgium is Belgian.. And there was me thinking that there are three spoken languages, the main two being Dutch and French with a small region speaking German.. But what would I know! Perhaps Tiger should have studied poker rather than linguistics after overbetting a pot by jamming AI and getting called by Kev Steward who knew that his second pair was good. Sean King was the bubble and the top three cashed. 3rd place - Chris Fairclough collected £250 after making his first final table of 2011. A bit disappointing as we are now into September. Chris fell foul of an overbet jam AI to Kev Steward, betting 100k into a 30k pot. Kev again knew that he was good and sent Chris to the rails. Were you not watching when Tiger tried the same move? If only Chris had paid more attention to the chip stacks as Lee Anderson was sitting with less than five big blinds. 2nd place - Lee Anderson collected £375, even though he sat down at the final table as one of the lowest stacks. Lee took advantage of big stacks clashing and a couple of players pressing the self-destruct button to ladder up to being our runner-up and a very tidy cash. Patience and discipline paid off, and realistically you stood little chance against Kev Steward heads-up with his chip advantage. 1st place - Kev Steward who won £625 towards his GUKPT Blackpool seat. It was a joy to watch your play on the final table Kev. I had to admire your reads when faced with the AI jams by both Tiger and Chris Fairclough and the way you took your time, thought about the action on previous streets and made two brave calls. A very worthy winner. Excellent play. Our next live tournament in Whitehaven will be held on Sunday 2nd October 2011 at Lowca ARL Club, 2pm start. This will be our £50 Deepstack Freezeout. Later Dudes!

Winner: STEVE MCMILLAN
Results: 1st, Steve McMillan. 2nd, Peter Young. 3rd, Paul Lamonby. 4th, Paul Christian. 5th, Ian Tweedie. 6th, Gary Hill. 7th, Ron Wilkinson. 8th, Josy Hewer. 9th, John Goodwin. 10th, Barry Curle.
Raffle Winner: Chris Glen
42 players contested our latest live tournament at the Haven Club. A warm welcome to our new players, Ian Fulton, Gavin Henry, Dean Lunn and Craig Yates. Thanks to the five Carlisle players that travelled through, with three of these players going on to make the final table (Barry Curle, Gary Hill and Paul Lamonby). My mate Will Wharton (Carlisle) fell just short of the final table after going out in 11th place. Barry Curle made the final table on his first appearance in Whitehaven, and I am sure he will be back to improve on his 10th place finish. John Goodwin finished in 9th and surprisingly this was only his second final table this year. Josy Hewer took 8th place after taking his seat at the final table as one of the chip leaders. Ron Wilkinson finished in 7th place making back-to-back final tables at the Haven Club and regaining the title of "No.1 Wilkinson." Another man making consecutive final tables was Gary Hill, who finished 8th in Whitehaven last month, then two weeks later took down our Carlisle event and finished 6th at today's event. Ian "Joeboy" Tweedie cashed for finishing 5th and collecting £185. 4th place and £245 went to Paul Christian who always seems to make the final table and even when he has the short stack, scrapes his way into the cash. Well played Fletch. 3rd place and £330 went to our Carlisle Tournament Director, Paul Lamonby who is looking forward to his first trip to Las Vegas. I hope that it is a very successful trip for you. 2nd place and £470 went to my long time friend Peter Young. After fighting his way back to be chip leader when heads-up, I thought that this was at long last going to be the time Digger finally took down one of our live events after being a regular player that has been with us from the start. Unfortunately this wasn't to be but he has now made consecutive final tables and will be confident of doing so again at our next live event. Our winner, collecting a cool £820, Steve McMillan. This was Steve's second final table of the year after his min cash in our February event. Steve managed to build a very impressive stack on the final table and played it very well. There is a New Kid On The Block! Our next live event at the Haven Club will be the £50 Deep Stack Freezeout on Sunday 3rd July 2011. Start time 2pm. Later Dudes!

Winner: RICHARD ROBINSON
Results: 1st, Richard Robinson. 2nd, Stephen Brough. 3rd, Alan Hewson. 4th, Ron Wilkinson. 5th, Paul Christian. 6th, Ken Johnston. 7th, Marc Goodwin. 8th, Gary Hill. 9th, Peter Young. 10th, John Wilkinson.
Raffle Winner: Chris Campbell
37 players contested our latest live poker tournament at the Haven Club, which was a good number considering it was a Bank Holiday Sunday and the sun was shining. It was nice to welcome back some players that haven't been for a while, and we all hope to see more of Chatty (Neil Batey), The Farmer (Chris Campbell) and Blue (Stephen Sloane). Thanks to the three amigo's that travelled down from Carlisle, (Gary Hill, Alan Hewson and Richard Robinson) and it was nice to see all three of you on the final table. Obviously it's the creme de la creme that is coming to the Haven now and the donks are being left at home. Ron Wilkinson took out his younger brother John to reclaim the title of No1 Wilkinson. Ron limped into John's bb. Paul Christian called from the sb and John checked. The flop of 3,K,9 saw the two brother end up AI both having hit a set. John had trip 3's and Ron had trip K's which improved to quads on the river. Sibling rivalry.. I love it! Marc Goodwin also bettered his brothers performance by finishing 7th as opposed to John's 32nd place finish. Marc had won his seat in a satellite and has proved that he is ready to make the step up to the bigger tournaments. Our bubble was Paul "Fletch" Christian who received £20 off each of the remaining players. 4th place, Ron Wilkinson collected £215. Well played Ron. I think you need to buy Joeboy a man bag out of your winnings. 3rd place, Alan Hewson collected £325. I thought that my mate from Carlisle was going to win this event after he played solid poker all day. 2nd place, (£450) Stephen Brough. Solway Lil had another excellent tournament and has added this cash to the £1000 he won in March at the Haven Club. Our Winner, (£810) and the first player from Carlisle to ever take down an event at the Haven Club, Richard Robinson. Robbo came back from the dead, when having one of the shortest stacks when we were down to two table. He totally decimated the final table and was a very worthy winner. Excellent play Robbo and I am sure that you will be back again to take down another event in the West for the Carlisle boys. The top two prizes were chopped between Robbo and Solway Lil with both players collecting £630. Our next live event at the Haven Club will be the £50 Deep Stack Freezeout on Sunday 5th June 2011. Start time 2pm. Later Dudes!

Another tournament at the Haven Club and another £1000+ payout to the winner, £1325 to be precise. This was our first £100 Super Stack (15k) Freezeout event of the year at Whitehaven and it attracted some 30 players. Carlisle United's appearance at Wembley and Mothering Sunday had an effect on the numbers, but we were still pleased with the field and the payout. I will make sure that next year I do not hold a poker tournament on Mothering Sunday and will therefore show respect to the mothers that want their husband's / son's to spend the day with them rather than playing poker. I must also give a special mention to our dealers, Lynda and Julie that worked on this special occasion. Thank You Ladies X It was nice to welcome a couple of new players, Ben Pope and Adam Russell to the fold. Thanks also to Stu Beattie and Nick Beaty who both travelled through from Carlisle for their first tournament in Whitehaven. These guys were supported by Will Wharton, Alan Hewson and Gary Hill. I am sure all these guys thought the journey was worth while after being entertained all day by an in-form Tiger Tyson. The Tiger had earlier that day got a fantastic bargain on a beautiful bunch of "Duffodils" for his mother. What a son! The final table once again saw No1 Wilkinson, John going deeper into the tournament that his older brother Ron and his adopted sister, Ian Tweedie. Well played John. Lee Anderson, Josy Hewer and Brian Corbett Jnr collected their first points of 2011. Gary Hill (Carlisle) was unlucky to finish on the bubble, (but was given £20 from the top 4) after clashing time and time again with Gary Fowler on the final table. The top four players cashed with Nigel White (4th) collecting £355. David Todd (3rd) won his seat in a £20 satellite and collected £530 for his efforts. Gary Fowler was our runner-up and added £740 to the £1065 that he won in February at our £50 Deep Stack event. Well played again Gary. You are certainly one of the most feared opponents and can amass chips like no other. Our winner, Stuart Hoskin, who was at a 3 to 1 chip disadvantage when we started heads-up play, managed to turn this around and win the battle within the space of seven hands. Stuart has now taken £1750 in prize money from the last two NPS tournaments at the Haven Club. This return is for a combined entry fee of £150. NPS is the place to be playing poker with massive prizepools and cash tables for our members also. Our next live event at the Haven Club will be the £50 Deep Stack Freezeout on Sunday 1st May 2011. Start time 2pm. Later Dudes!

Winner: STEPHEN BROUGH
Results: 1st, Stephen Brough. 2nd, John Goodwin. 3rd, Stuart Hoskin. 4th, Gordon Maudling Snr. 5th, Paul Christian. 6th, Craig Cuthbertson. 7th, Mike Farrer. 8th, John Richardson. 9th, Barry Goodwin. 10th, Kevin Orr.
Raffle Winner: Luke Goalen
58 players generated another fantastic prizepool of £2850. Another £1000 winner and another enjoyable day of live poker at the Haven Club. There was added value added to event courtesy of Paul Twaddle (redhotpoker). The first player out won a 50 euro online tournament entry. This was won by Mike Hawkins. The biggest chipstack at our second break also won a 50 euro online tournament entry. This was won by Stuart Hoskin. The last player standing won a 100 euro tournament entry. This was also won by Stuart Hoskin. The aforementioned prizes were awarded to any player that submitted their name and email address to redhotpoker. No sign-up was required. Thanks very much to Paul and redhotpoker for their generosity. The poker nemesis that is Mike "All-In" Chambers wrecked havoc on the tables once more. He had his best finish in a long time when making 20th place / level 8. He almost got to level 9 where the ante's are brought in, but this concerned me as he would probably have a nose bleed if he reached these dizzy heights. He did leave his mark however, twice calling AI's pre-flop and busting pocket Kings with firstly 2,3 o/s (hitting runner runner 2's on the turn and river) and then A,9 (spiking the A on the river). Good old Chembo. Kevin Orr was back in the points after making ANOTHER final table. Barry Goodwin at his first NPS live tournament played excellent all day and was rewarded with a final table finish. Another solid performance from John Richardson saw him make the final table too, although I will never forget his pearls of wisdom, "I will call because I can't be arsed." I will put that in the data bank along with Chris Cowley's, "To beat idiots, you have to play like an idiot." The top seven players cashed with Mike Farrer (7th) collecting £115. I am certain Mike would have gone further, but he had the distraction of being in a Irish Poker Open Qualifier which was running online at the same time. Craig Cuthbertson (6th) made back-to-back final table at Whitehaven and collected £170 for his efforts. Paul Christian (5th) was again in the money after cashing at our live event at Carlisle two weeks ago. This time Fletch walked away with £230, after calling John Goodwin's pre-flop AI from the bb. Fletch showed 10,10 and John turned Big Slick and hit an Ace to take down a massive pot. Gordon Maudling Snr has done what his son, Gordon Maudling Jnr did at the Haven Club in January, and made the final table. Snr went one better than Jnr and cashed for £310. "Who's The Daddy!" Stuart Hoskin (3rd) cashed for £425 after a good performance. He also won 150 euro's of redhotpoker tournament entry fee's. John Goodwin was our runner-up. The first final table of the year for Goodnight. I am sure that this is the start of a good run. £600 will pay for his Northern Poker Stars tournaments for a few months. Our winner, Stephen Brough, decimated the final table taking out 6 of the players that sat down at the business end to contest the tasty prizepool. I agree Solway Lil, £1000 will come in handy when you go to Cuba this week. Mojito's and Havana cigar's rolled on the inner thigh's of beautiful Latino virgins.. Enough to make you want to start smoking.. Many thanks to all that entered, face old and new. It's nice to see players like Jeff Cass and Dick Stalker back. Thanks to Matt Coups and Luke Goalen for travelling up from Manchester. I hope to see you again soon. Best give your liver chance to recover after Hawko showed you the delights of West Cumbria. Many thanks to Paul Twaddle for adding the extra value to the event and for flying up from London for the NPS event. Great to see a poker room that can offers a personal touch. Our next live event at the Haven Club will be the £100 Super Stack Freezeout on Sunday 3rd April 2011. Start time 2pm. Finally I would like to mention Mark Varela and Gus Handsome (Kostas Anatselopoulos) who came up for the event from Kendal. Mark left his van lights on for over 3 hours and drained his battery. Therefore they were both almost stranded in Whitehaven until I towed them to bump start his van. NB. WHEN BEING TOWED, PLEASE DISENGAGE HANDBRAKE. ALSO PUT KEY IN IGNITION AND TURN TO DISENGAGE STEERING LOCK.. What a disaster.. Later Dudes!

SOLD OUT! The event was capped at 60 players and sold out. I did allow two alternates who managed to enter the tournament before the break giving the event a total number of 62 runners. The prizepool was a fantastic £3050 and add this to our first live event of 2011 at Whitehaven and we have now paid out £5950. Another live event and another £1000+ winner, and I expect this statistic to continue, but also predict a 100 seat event this year with a £5000 prizepool. There were a lot of new faces at the event and one player that caught my eye was Tom Smith. His finishing position did not justify his play. The young guns seem to be taking over and I imagine that we will see the final tables regularly populated with; Danny Black, Chris Dodd, Kevin Orr and Steve McMillan. It was also very good to see the popular Joan Lawley at the event. The new poker players will do well to observe her play and learn from her experience. Both Stephen Brown and Kevin Orr made consecutive final tables at Whitehaven. Kevin has also made the final table at our first live event in Carlisle this year as well as winning two out of three of our online league tournaments. Surely he must be one of the players that will be in the mix for at least one of our titles this year? Keep it going Kevin. The top seven players cashed with Steve McMillan (7th) collecting £120. Wayne Nixon (6th) collected £185. Will Wharton with his second consecutive cash, after finishing 3rd in Carlisle last month, collected £245, for his 5th place finish in this event. Well done Dude. Chris Glen (4th) collected £335. Chris Kelly (3rd) collected £460. Kevin Orr (2nd) £640. Our winner, Gary Fowler, who played excellent poker all day, and after amassing a huge chipstack, he bullied the field. Gary was responsible for sending 10 players to the rails. There are fewer players that I want to be out of position to, at a poker table, especially given the huge chip lead that Gary held over the field. Everything clicked for him in this event and he walked away with £1065. Awesome poker Gary. Our next live event at the Haven Club will be the £50 Deep Stack Freezeout on Sunday 6th March 2011. Start time 2pm. Please remember that this event sold out and that players were turned away. Book your seat well in advance to guarantee yourself a shot at another estimated £1000+ payout for the winner. Later Dudes!

Raffle Winner: Lee Houghton
59 players contested our first live event of 2011 under the new format of a 10k Deepstack Freezeout. The total prizepool was £2900 and it was nice to players new and old contesting the cash. The winner was guaranteed £1000+ due to the number of runners and I fully expect this to be the case in all of our live events in Whitehaven this year as I can see the number of runners getting back to the 70+ mark. It was nice to see a fresh looking final table as opposed to one that is generally littered with the usual suspects. Kevin Orr was the "bubble" but I expect more from this young player. Stephen Brown finished in 7th place collecting £115. 6th place was the ever consistent Paul Lamonby (our current Online Player of the Year). David Payne, who at one stage had almost a third of the 590,000 chips in play, somehow managed to take 5th place instead of the win that he was nailed on to collect. 4th place went to my player of the day, Danny Black, who has put Carlisle on the map at the Haven Club. Well played Dude. 3rd place went to the No1 Wilkinson (John Wilkinson) who pushed when short stacked with 2, 3 o/s and got three callers. John hit two pair on the flop, which kept him in the event with 7 players remaining and went on to a very good cash. Our runner-up was a player that we see once in a blue moon, but generally does very well when he plays. David Todd collected another tidy sum from a Northern Poker Stars live event. The winner, Andrew Grima, who last year won the Vegas WildCard draw and after putting him up in The Bellagio and paying for his poker for a week, we haven't seen him since. He was back with a bang. Our first winner of 2011 and a prize of £1115.. Andrew, please don't disappear for another 12 months. The new format is a winner. The players love it and the play is very generous. To be honest it is over-generous so we need to tweak it slightly. One thing that we must do is bring the start time forward @ The Haven Club to 2pm. This will come into force at our next live event @ The Haven Club on Sunday 6th February, 2pm start. Later Dudes!

30 players contested our final live event of the year in West Cumbria. I turned away five players as I decided that we would run with a maximum of three tables on the day. The only way that you are guaranteed a seat at these events is if you book in advance. Please do not leave it to chance by turning up on the day. I expect the number of players to increase significantly in 2011 when we move to the Deep Stack Freezeout format. It was all up for grabs with a three-way shootout to be crowned Live Tournament Player of the Year - West Cumbria. The men in question, Paul Christian, John Goodwin and Ian Tweedie all found themselves on different tables, a relief to the former two and a disappointment to the latter. John Goodwin retorted back to his old style of tight play. Ian Tweedie was his usual aggressive self and had his chips All-In several times in the first few levels. Paul Christian played his usual game too... Tighter than the lock on his wallet. When Ian got busted out, it was easy to see the relief on the faces of both John and Paul, but then fate took a bitter twist when they were both seated on the same table in consecutive seats with John having postion over Paul. Both players managed to make it to the final table and with Paul holding a seven point lead in the race for the title, John needed to see Paul being busted out in the first couple of players. That didn't happen with, Kevin Orr (first live final table @ NPS event) going out in 10th place. Kevin was soon followed by the NPS Individual Champion, Chris Fairclough (first final table in West Cumbria in 2010) who failed to see that Mike Farrer was holding pocket Aces when his reraise of Mike's initial raise was subjected to an AI shove by Mike. Chris called with Jacks and went out in 9th place. Ron Wilkinson was our next casualty, but the points that he took from making the final table saw him leapfrog his poker partner Ian Tweedie and Ron finishes the season as the third best live player in West Cumbria. This meant that the top two places were decided too. John Goodwin has had another fantastic season and finishes runner-up, albeit by two points to Paul Christian. Conratulations Paul who is crowned our Live Tournament Player of the Year 2010 and adds that title to his triumph as Online Player of the Year 2009. The only thing left to sort out was the prizepool of £1680. When down to the final 5 players, everyone put £20 in for the bubble and the ever consistent Ian Arnold was the recipient of that. With chipstacks pretty much equal except for Mike Farrer's the remaining four players got into the Christmas spirit and agreed on a chop. Mike Farrer was awarded £480 and the remaining three players, David Cunningham, John Goodwin and myself collected £400 each. The pressure was now off and the final positions were soon decided after one of the longest final tables at a NPS event. Thanks to everyone for your support during 2010 and I cannot wait for the start of the 2011 season. £50 Deep Stack and £100 Super Stack Freezeout events. Everyone is expecting larger fields and bigger payouts. I would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a profitable 2011 on the tables. Later Dudes!

Winner: IAN TWEEDIE
Results: 1st, Ian Tweedie. 2nd, Brian Corbett (Jnr). 3rd, Nigel White. 4th, Gary Clucas. 5th, John Goodwin. 6th, Paul Lamonby. 7th, Chris Cowley. 8th, Rob Eilbeck. 9th, Gordon Maudlin. 10th, Sean Forsyth.
Raffle Winner: Chris Glen
31 players generated a fantastic prizepool of £1740. It was nice to see the return of some old players in the shape of a former Champion, Nigel White, as well as Gary Clucas and Rob Eilbeck, and all three went on to final table. There were also a number of new players, Shane Grears, Carol Minto (from the Martin Young school of poker), Brian Corbett Snr, Jason Ball, Owen Maudlin and his dad, Gordon Maudlin (final table in his first ever NPS live tournament). Thanks to all new and returning players and I feel ultra-confident that the New Year and new deepstack freeze-out format will see the field increase in numbers. With Paul Christian and Stephen Tyson failing to make the final table, the door was open for John Goodwin to move up the leaderboard and put himself in with a great chance of being crowned our Champion for 2010. Goodnight was not going to let this opportunity pass-by and finished in 5th place (bubble, although the top four gave him £10 each) closing the gap on Fletch to 7 points with one event remaining. After a long absence, Gary Clucas was very unlucky to finish in 4th place (£175) after calling a pre-flop AI of Brian Corbett (Jnr) whilst holding A,J against Brian's A,4. The river brought a 4 and that summed up gary's day after suffering much the same luck many times but still managing to cash. 3rd place (£350) Nigel White. Nice to see you back Dude. Played fantastic poker all day and sent more to the rail than any other player. 2nd place (£520) Brian Corbett Jnr, our second father / son combination of the day and the canny Scot was unlucky when the very first hand of heads-up play, he ended up AI pre-flop with Q,Q against Ian Tweedie, holding A,K. The flop brought Ian a set of Kings and an Ace on the river gave Ian a full house, the tournament victory and £685. Well played Joeboy. Ian has crept up the leaderboard and is now sitting in 3rd place just 24 points off the lead with one event top play in Whitehaven. He is still sitting in 2nd place and a trophy position in Carlisle. Joeboy is on for lifting 2 trophies at our presentation @ Carlisle on Saturday 18th December, when we host the Northern Poker Stars Team Championship. I personally hope he makes it three as he is in my team for that event. Not to be outdone, John Goodwin is in with an outside chance of doing the same. Our final live league event of 2010 @ Whitehaven will be held on Sunday 5th December 2010 @ The Haven Club, 3pm start. Later Dudes!

Winner: JOSY HEWER
Results: 1st, Josy Hewer. 2nd, Billy Morgan. 3rd, Paul Lamonby. 4th, Maurice Wigham. 5th, Alex Cronin. 6th, John Goodwin. 7th, Bob Cloudsdale. 8th, Kevin Smith. 9th, Ian Tweedie. 10th, Stephen Tyson.
Raffle Winner: Grant Park
28 players contested the total prizepool of £1590. Thanks to the three players that travelled through from Carlisle, with two of these making the final table (Kevin Smith and Paul Lamonby). Mike "All In" Chambers was our first casualty (AGAIN) but that is no surprise. With both Paul Christian and Ron Wilkinson failing to make the final table, the door was open for Stephen "Tiger" Tyson to close the gap in the race for the NPS Live Tournament Player of the Year (West Cumbria). He just scrapped into the points, finishing in 10th place but overtaking Ron Wilkinson on the leaderboard and now sits in second, behind Paul Christian. Ron has also been overtaken by the ever reliable John Goodwin. Game On! It was no surprise to see Ian Tweedie and John Goodwin on the final table. The top four players shared the spoils with Maurice Wigham collecting £190 for his 4th place finish. Paul Lamonby was unlucky to finish in 3rd after he raised and called an AI from Josy Hewer in the bb. It was Lammy's Q,Q vs Oscars K,J o/s and the Workington lad hit two pair on the flop which improved to a full house on the river. Unlucky Paul, but £285 is a good return. Billy Morgan who was short stacked compared to Josy, finished in 2nd place collecting £400 (which was improved slightly with an agreed chop with Josy). Our winner, the very likeable Josy Hewer, who finished off celebrating his birthday weekend in style by taking down the event and £715. The top four players all donated £20 each to Alex Cronin who finished on the Bubble. Our next live poker @ the Haven Club is on Sunday 7th November, 3pm start. Later Dudes!

A new format and a new side event at NPS live tournaments. We had a £15 Double Chance event with 6 players and a total prizepool of £180. This was won by Kevin Orr and he will be playing the £30 Double Chance event next month as well as collecting £75. The £30 / £30 attracted 17 players after 4 late dropouts. The total prizepool for this event was £990 + £30 into the Player of the Year fund. After 3 hours play, we had only lost 3 players. Our first casualty was the Northern Poker Stars Champion, Chris Fairclough, who was out and home before the break. The final table saw a new face in David Cunningham who won the raffle for a free seat to next month's £30 /£30. The usual protagonists were in contention, Ron Wilkinson, Paul Christian, John No1 Wilkinson, John Goodwin and Stephen Tiger Tyson, who revealed to us all that "it is illegal to have a dog in a car that is not wearing a seatbelt". He is a fountain of knowledge if not youth! Brian Corbett collected £200 for his 3rd place finish. John Goodnight Goodwin collected £300 as runner-up and our winner, The Tiger, staggered away with £490. He phoned me the following day to ask how much he had won. Our next live tournament will be on Sunday 15th August @ The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle, 2:30pm start. We will be back at The Haven Club on Sunday 5th September, 3pm start. I will be approaching the summit of Kilimanjaro, so Paul Lamonby will be your tournament director that day. Later Dudes!

Winner: PAUL CHRISTIAN
Results: 1st, Paul Christian. 2nd, Ian Arnold. 3rd, Ian Tweedie. 4th, Billy Morgan. 5th, Paul Lamonby. 6th, Gary Fowler. 7th, Mark Simpson. 8th, Jamie MacGillivray. 9th, John Richardson. 10th, Ron Wilkinson.
Raffle Winner: Paul Lamonby
23 players raised another £69 for the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" appeal. I expected a small field in light of our Championship event next Saturday, but thanks to the players that turned up, especially the six that travelled down from Carlisle. Our first man out was Mike "All-In" Chambers, of course, but he was closely followed by his comedy partner Stephen "Tiger" Tyson. The final table started with Paul Christian being the short stack. After the departure of Ron Wilkinson, we witnessed John "The Turtle" Richardson lose consecutive hands and get busted out after going AI pre-flop with A,A and the Q,Q. He was very unlucky on both occasions after being so dominant pre-flop with both hands. Next to leave was the an NPS poker virgin from Carlisle. Jamie "Six Hands" MacGillivray, who the brother of Will "The Hulk", made it to the final table at his first NPS event. Well played Jamie. Mark Simpson was the next man out. Another extremely tight yet solid player from Carlisle. Gary Fowler went out in 6th place and there was one man left at the table (Paul Lamonby) that was please to see the back of Gary, as he had been bullied all day by the ultra-aggressive Mr. Fowler. Our Carlisle tournament director, Paul "Lamchop" Lamonby went out in 5th place losing a 50/50 race with Ian "Joeboy" Tweedie. Billy Morgan was our bubble-boy, but played well all day. Third place went to Ian Tweedie. Joeboy managed to build a dangerous stack with his aggressive play, and with the help of A,K on a few occasions, taking his chance in races and coming up trumps, mainly to the dismay of Ian "Boom BOOM" Arnold, who always seemed to hold the hand with the weaker kicker. Another fantastic display of poker from Joeboy. Our runner-up and more importantly, my Vegas room-buddy, Ian "Boom BOOM" Arnold. Arny is a self-confessed cash game player, and admits that his tournament play needs to improve. On his last two visits to Whitehaven, he has finished 3rd and 2nd respectively, collecting over £600. How much more room for improvement is there? Well done Dude! Our winner, and current leader for the title of West Cumbria Live Player of the Year, Paul "Fletch" Christian. As I mentioned earlier, Fletch sat down at the final table as the short stack, but his usual solid play saw him battle through a final table that was littered with very strong players. Well played Fletch. Our next live poker is the Northern Poker Stars Championship on Saturday 12th June, 2010 @ The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle. This event already boasts Cumbria's largest ever prizepool. If you want a seat, contact me ASAP. Later Dudes!

Winner: STEPHEN TYSON
Results: 1st, Stephen Tyson. 2nd, John Richardson. 3rd, Albert Mattinson. 4th, Mark Hillary. 5th, John Goodwin. 6th, Will MacGillivray. 7th, Paul Christian. 8th, Mark Simpson. 9th, Stephen Brough. 10th, Peter Young.
Raffle Winner: Peter Young
26 players helped to raise another £78 for CFM Radio Cash For Kids Appeal. Thanks to the Three Amigo's that made the journey through from Carlisle. Will "The Hulk" Macgillivray exacted some revenge on his mate Kevin Smith, by busting him out of the tournament, although Will had the superior hand, unlike Kevin when he decimated Will's stack at Carlisle. Mike "All-In" Chambers set a new record by being busted out, only 15 minutes into the tournament. This was only one hand after he took his Double Chance. The final table started at 18:15hrs. As usual Stephen "Tiger" Tyson was outside having one of his many smoke breaks. When he came back in, I informed him that he was being blinded out, and that he was sat in seat 10. His reply was, "Where here?" as he took his seat. Yes, Tiger, that is seat 10, but that is also the cash table and you are on the final table of the tournament. Remember his famous quote, "I may be pissed but I am not an idiot!" Hmmm... The jury's out on that one! Peter "DaddyDigDog" Young was our first casualty on the final table, though he won the raffle to compensate this somewhat. The next player to bite the dust was Stephen "Solway Lil" Brough. This player doesn't get to many games now, but is always around the final table whenever he comes. One of our Carlisle players was next to go, but well played Mark Simpson and thanks for coming through. Paul "Fletch" Christian made ANOTHER final table and will be hoping this is the case again in Nottingham, on my birthday bash. Carlisle's form player, Will MacGillivray went out in 6th place, again losing to an inferior hand. I held my breath, but it was Dr. David Banner that left the table and not The Hulk. The doors were safe at the Haven Club, well, at least until Junior makes an appearance. John "Goodnight" Goodwin, had a mini-strop after being dumped in 5th by undercards, but not on the scale of his tantrum at Carlisle, at our previous tournament. Mark "Hilcher' Hillary went out on the bubble, but can take some satisfaction from being among the elite once again. Our 3rd placed player and in the cash at only his second NPS live event, Albert Mattinson, who was duped by the Tiger, and this cost him the chip lead. Word of advice, don't believe anything the Tiger says. I am still waiting for the turkey that he promised me for Christmas 2008, and the chicken that he was giving me for Christmas 2009. Our runner-up and a regular player that deserves a break, if only for his loyalty, John "The Turtle" Richardson. His good luck charm of a pot turtle that his youngest daughter bought him whilst on holiday, carried him through to second place. Excellent play John. Our winner.. God only knows how, when he couldn't even sit at the correct table when we were down to the last ten players, Stephen "The Tiger" Tyson. The Tiger did however decimate the field, busting out 9 of the 26 players (well 8, and All-In). Tiger is running well at the moment, having made 8 final tables from 4 events at Carlisle (ask him, not me!). Our next live poker will be on Sunday 16th May, 2pm @ the Ukrainian Club, Carlisle. We will be back at the Haven Club on Sunday 23rd May, 3pm for an invitational event, with a bumper prizepool. Later Dudes!

Winner: SEAN FORSYTH
Results: 1st, Sean Forsyth. 2nd, Chris Cowley. 3rd, Paul Wallace. 4th, Rob Eilbeck. 5th, John Goodwin. 6th, Chris Glen. 7th, Ron Wilkinson. 8th, John Ferguson. 9th, Chris Campbell. 10th, Richard Jackson.
Raffle Winner: Mike Farrer
32 players entered our Easter Monday £30 Double Chance event. Thanks to the Carlisle boy's who made the trip through and made up the prizepool. One day we will get a winner from the City. Mike Farrer has won his first ever raffle after three years of buying tickets. Perhaps he will stop moaning about it now? My fellow Kilimanjaro climber, Richard Jackson (who had a free seat after winning a previous raffle), made the final table but went out early in 10th place. The Farmer made yet another final table, but was surprisingly sober, and not too annoying to his fellow players. It will be interesting to see which Farmer turns up at Carlisle on 18th April. One of our new players, John Ferguson finished in 8th at his first appearance at Whitehaven. Well played John. The next four places were covered by the usual suspects, Ron Wilkinson, Chris Glen, John Goodwin (our bubble) and an extremely loose Rob Eilbeck. Rob cashed in fourth, but went out when making a continuation raise and calling an AI on a straight draw with bottom pair. He had run in to a monster! Sean "TT" Forsyth was sitting with the nuts, a diamond straight flush, Queen high. What a flop! Another Silloth player, Paul Wallace, also making his debut at Whitehaven was unlucky to go out in third after Moylesy spiked an Ace on the river. Paul has played with NPS at Carlisle and has made two final tables there. This Dude can play. Our runner up was Chris "Moylesy" Cowley who laughed all day, at everyone else's demise and bad beats. This joker has certainly got a sense of humour. The winner and this has been a long time since I have said this.. Sean "TT" Forsyth. Sean played a solid game all day and was personally responsible for taking out almost one third of the field. Over £600 into the hands of his wife-to-be, Susan, who assures me that it will go towards their honeymoon. Our next live poker will be at the Ukrainian Club, Carlisle on the Sunday 18th April and we will be back at the Haven Club, Hensingham on Sunday 2nd May. Later Dudes!

29 players helped to raise a fantastic sum of £357 for the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal. Thanks to all of you for your generosity. We are still blighted with players reserving seats and not showing. This is not acceptable. One of the players, to his credit has said that he will pay for his seat. From now on any player that reserves and seat and fails to show, has the option to pay for that seat, or I will no longer reserve tournament seats for that said player. The player will therefore have to pay in advance or pay £40 on the day. I would also like to draw your attention to a request from the dealers to be given more than 24 hours notice. A large number of players are leaving it to the Friday deadline to reserve a seat. In future any player that reserves a seat after the Wednesday before the event, will be put on a self-deal table. You will not be allocated a dealer. Seats will still be available for £30 up to the Friday deadline. Back to the tournament results; The BallBreaker - AKA Joan Lawley, won her first ever raffle. Her winning ticket was drawn out by Ian Tweedie - Joeboy, who has never won the raffle and failed to pull his own ticket out. The final table saw Jeff Cass AGAIN make the upper echelon at the Haven Club. The BubbleBoy Bob Cloudsdale had a feeling that this could be the one.. The day he finally took down a NPS Live Tournament and he duly crashed out in 9th place. Lee Shilton made his annual appearance after getting his pass stamped, 12 months after playing his last tournament with us. Again though he made the final table. Paul Christian, Mr Tight, was back on the final table after a surprising period that has seen him fail to make the top 10 (one tournament). Carlisle's solitary player at the event was the rather loveable "scrawny kid" Deano. He played well all day and I had a feeling that this could be the day that a Carlisle player finally won at Whitehaven. I would just like to mention to the Carlisle players that we do not eat our young in Whitehaven, and bottled water is available for those of you that are scared to partake in our alcoholic beverages. I know the Haven Club is a fortress, but you will never have a winner through here if you are not willing to make the journey.. No passport required. A far greater percentage of players from the West make the SHORT journey through to Carlisle and it is not going unnoticed by the players from the West that you seem scared to come to the Haven Club. Big Al Jackson has obviously finished the house renovations and is back enjoying his poker, although finishing on "the Bubble" is never nice. David Scrimgour, our only player from Keswick, impressed me, though not the BubbleBoy, with his play. He made some fantastic plays from the button and from the small blind, and even made a deliberate play out-of-turn that had Deano applauding in approval. Excellent play Dave. Joeboy finished in 3rd place, after being taken out by his travelling partner Roy Cropper. That's one for the book. Ian's play is great to watch. I am among a group of players that rank him as one, if not the best player that we currently have. Perhaps Joeboy will be the first NPS player to win a major ranking tournament? Mark Hillary finished runner-up after a one-handed heads-up "battle". Well played Mark. Our winner, and this is his second NPS tournament win.. Ron Wilkinson. Fantastic play Ron. Our next live tournament @ the Haven Club will be held on Easter Monday, 5th April, 3pm start. Please remember the rules for reserving seats and don't miss out on having a seat at a dealt table. Later Dudes!

35 players raised a fantastic sum of £425 for the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal (£105 from your admission fees and £320 from the 2K add-on). Thanks to all of you. This is a great start to my Kilimanjaro fundraising. We had several new players, David Scrimgour from Kendal, Lenny Rayson and Brian Glaister from Workington. After experiencing a Northern Poker Stars live event, I hope to see you back again, with a few new players in tow? Many thanks to these players and also the three amigo's that travelled down from Carlisle in search of glory. Ian Arnold, Paul Lamonby and Dean Lamonby failed in their attempt to take down the field, and we are still waiting for a Carlisle player to win an event at Whitehaven. Deano did however finish the top ranked Carlisle player, adding some credibility to his claims that he is Carlisle's No1. Chris Campbell built a huge chipstack very early in the tournament and had some of our more feared players looking rather like fish out of water. When we eventually got down to the final table, it was no surprise to see the likes of Chris Glen, Philip Potts (his third consecutive final table), Stephen Tyson ("I may be drunk, but I'm not an idiot") and Barry Willcocks. I have noticed a huge improvement in the play of Chris Kelly and this is starting to show in his tournament finishes. Another player that is new to the NPS scene is Mark Barlow, and I have a feeling that he will be one of our stars of the future. For as long as I have been involved in the poker scene in Cumbria, there is one player that springs to mind, that just doesn't get the rewards that his play deserves. He has cashed on the odd occasion, and even won a few, but for the number of events that he has entered, he has not yet emulated his online form on the live stage. The past couple of weeks however, things have started to click for the man from Maryport, known as Blond1e. He recently took down the Leaving For Las Vegas Part Five tournament, and quite easily too. Today's event saw him sat out of position to Chris Campbell and his Kilimanjaro of chips for quite a while. It niggled Blond1e that he couldn't get involved too much as Chris seemed to apply the squeeze play whenever Blond1e entered the fray. The turning point came when I moved Chris Campbell, to even the table numbers up. Blond1e soon became the table captain and it seemed that every player that bit the dust, had been sent packing by Blond1e. When we started the final table, Blond1e was amongst the chip leaders and perhaps even shaded it. I watched in admiration as he made call after call when players pushed AI. The majority of the time he called with the better hand, but even when he didn't he had chips to make the call and the potential hand to win the showdown. With three players remaining, he stated that he would win the heads-up battle, even if he was the short stack. This didn't smack of arrogance, this was a player that felt good about his game and was extremely confident. Heads-up saw Blond1e holding a huge chip advantage over Stu Hoskin. He set the trap by checking two pair on the flop and Stu made an AI play. Blond1e insta-called and for the second consecutive tournament, Jeff Cass was our champion. Great play and very well deserved. I have now scheduled all £30 Double Chance events at the Haven Club, Hensingham, for the 1st Sunday in every month. The start time will be 3pm. The only exception to this, is the event in April which will be held on Easter Monday, start time 1:30pm All £30 Double Chance events at the Ukrainian Club, Carlisle, will be held on the 3rd Sunday in every month. The start time will be 1:30pm. On Sunday 23rd May, at the Haven Club, Hensingham, there will be a £30 Double Chance event where all the monies will be paid out to the players. All I ask is that all players donate a minimum of £10 to the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal. This event will be INVITE ONLY and players that have supported the monthly events in Whitehaven and Carlisle will be given the opportunity to enter. This will be a limited seats event and invites will be given to the most loyal players initially. The Ukrainian Club, Carlisle will be hosting our next £30 Double Chance event on Sunday 28th February. Please contact either Paul Lamonby or myself for seats. Can Blond1e make it three wins in a row? Later Dudes!

51 players contested the first £30 Double Chance event of 2010. Thank you to all the players that came along. There were plenty of new faces as well as some that we haven't seen in a while and have been sorely missed (The BallBreaker). Thanks to the guys that travelled down from Carlisle and for making up the prizepool that was shared amongst the West Cumbrian's (AGAIN). I have to give credit though to some good players that I met from Carlisle, namely Ian Arnold, Paul Furlong and Will MacGillivray. Thanks Deano for driving these guys down. That was the best thing you did all day. Deano also had a go at winning his seat in the NPS Championship, but that didn't go too well for him either. Chris Glen won his third set and has sold it to Deano. Thats the only way he will get in for less than £220. Glad to see a couple of players from Carlisle on the final table, although they finished outside the cash. Congratulations to Cliff Degraf in making the final table and cashing in his first NPS tournament. Other than that, there arer no great surprises in the players that contested the money. Big Al hasn't played for a while, but knows how to do well in MTT's. Mint had his best finish for a while and was unlucky to find himself heads-up with the current NPS Live Tournament Player of the Year. Gary Clucas finished last year as our best live player. He has started 2010 as our Number 1. It's a hard task to defend your title, ask TT, but you have set about it in the right way, EXCELLENT Dude. All of the admin fee's that the players paid, will be donated to the CFM "Cash For Kids" Appeal. That is another £153 from NPS members. Thank You! The next live poker will be on Sunday 31st January @ the Ukrainian Club, Carlisle. Our next £30 Double Chance event @ The Haven Club will be on Sunday 21st February. This date was due to be our final Las Vegas Qualifier, but I am forced to bring Leaving For Las Vegas Part 5 forward one week to Sunday 14th February. Won't that be a nice Valentines Day present for your partner? Going home and telling her that you are going to Las Vegas for a week with Northern Poker Stars.. Please do not mention me in the divorce papers. Later Dudes!

Our final charity tournament of the year, saw 44 players raise a fantastic sum of £460 for CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" appeal. Many thanks to you all. This was the last tournament under this format and we are now switching to the format that is currently being employed by NPS @ Carlisle which rewards the players with bigger prizepools. Today's event brought the curtain down on this year's Live Player of the Year competition. At the start of the event, five players were still in the mix for the three trophies. Once the Vegas Baby, Mike Farrer exited the tournament in 41st place, we had our winner. The Northern Poker Stars Live Tournament Player of the Year 2009 is Gary Clucas. Gary has played excellent all year and was an early leader for the title. He missed half a dozen games and was deposed at the top by, firstly, Josy Hewer, then Mike Farrer. With only three events remaining, Gary found himself back in the lead and today became your Champion. As well as a Beautiful Crystal Trophy, Gary also collected £150 from the Player of the Year Fund. Congratulations Gary. The remaining trophies for the runners-up and of course, cash from the Player of the Year fund was still undecided. Chris Glen went out in 18th place meaning that he could not finish in second pace behind Gary. More concerning for Chris was that he might be out of the top three altogether. This was confirmed when John Goodwin made the final table. This also meant that John had finished second behind Gary (collecting a runners-up trophy and £100) and had demoted Mike Farrer to third place. Mike picked up a runners-up trophy and £50. The Player of the Year fund still has £300 in it. The top 11 players (shown on the leaderboard), as we have a tie for 10th place, are invited to a FREE tournament, on Sunday 27th December, to play for a seat at the Northern Poker Stars Championship (worth £220). The runner-up will receive £80 cash. The final table from today's event saw the top 5 players pick up cash. 5th place, Brian Heywood (Runner-up in the Online Player of the Year) collected £120. Brian hasn't been for a while, but showed that he is still a player to respect. Well done Bri-uk. 4th place, Alex Cronin has his first cash at a NPS tournament and walked away with $140. Well played Alex. 3rd place, Steve Hoskin (No1 Hosky) played brilliantly all day and I thought might just take win the event. Steve collected £180. Excellent play Steve. Hope to see more of you next year. 2nd place, Mike McKenzie. This Dude can play. He took down the Deepstack @ Blackpool's G Casino last month and showed his class here at Whitehaven. A formidable opponent ahead of the team event on Sunday 20th December @ Carlisle. Mike collects £310. Surely one of Carlisle's best players. I look forward to testing myself against you @ The Ukrainian. 1st place, Ryan Colaluca. Ryan qualified for today's event via a £5 satellite tournament at the Richmond. Today he walked away with £510. What an investment. The Wolf played solid poker all day. A man to look out for in 2010? As this year closes, I would like to thank everybody for their support and look forward to bigger tournaments in 2010 with larger prizepools and larger fields. Northern Poker Stars is THE place to play your poker. Play against the county's better players. Play for the biggest prizepools in Cumbria. I estimate a minimum of £10,000 in the prizepool for the Northern Poker Stars Championship in June. Play for seats in the GUKPT and PokerStars UKIPT events. Play for Las Vegas holidays. Play in the Northern Poker Stars Team Championship sponsored by 888.com. Play £30 Double Chance events. Play £100 Deepstack Freezeout events. Play online with NPS.   32 players helped to raise a fantastic sum of £325 for Cleator Moor Celtic U13's Football Team. This will be used to buy a new strip for what is surely the best football team in the County, in this age group. My son, Cory, plays for this team and I for one, am very grateful for your efforts. Thank you! Highlight of the day was The Tiger, taking down a very healthy pot on the cash table. On a 10 high flop, with three Spades on board, Tiger pushes AI for £120. Pikey holding Pocket Queens (one of them a Spade,) folds. Pikey then tells Tiger that he folded pocket Queens... Tiger's reply.. "You were ahead," "You had an overcard!!" AMAZING! Thanks to the new players that travelled through from Workington, with John Fearon almost cashing in his first ever NPS tournament. Welcome back to old faces that we haven't seen for a while, Ryan Watson, who cashed in 3rd for £185, and Ged Kirkpatrick, who won the event, and walked away with a cool £465. Fletch making ANOTHER final table and cashing AGAIN, for £280, after finishing in 2nd. Well done to you all. Garry Potter / Crazyhorse Clucas, extends his lead in the race for the NPS Live Tournament Player of the Year, but with one event remaining, he could still be pipped to the title. This firstly depends upon the numbers at the event. The last live tournament of 2009 will be held on 13th December 2009, @ The Haven Club, 3pm start. i will be presenting the winners of the live and online tournaments their trophies at this event. We will be raising funds for CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal and this will be our last event under this format, before moving to the new rules which will generate larger payouts. Later Dudes!

Raffle Winner: Mike Chambers
44 Players helped to raise a fantastic sum of £435 for CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal. I would like to thank Paul Lamonby for his excellent handling of the tournament. Paul will be the Tournament Director for Northern Poker Stars in Carlisle, when these events launch on Sunday 8th November. These events will be run under the new rules meaning bigger prizepools for the players. Anyone wanting to details of the events at Carlisle, please contact Paul on 07515912959. The final table was deprived of Mike Farrer, (who has featured on the last three final tables), and John Goodwin, (who has failed to final table in the last three events). Taking advantage of the absence of aforementioned duo, and the failure of the mercurial Chris Glen to make it into the elite 10, Paul Christian has given himself an outside chance of a podium finish for the Live Tournament Player of the Year. Still a bit of work to do and a lot of luck needed, but Fletch is challenging for both Live and Online trophies. Good Luck Partner! Paul Lamonby brought his brother Dean along to the tournament and Dean was confident enough to predict an appearance on the final table. Dean, If only you had tipped yourself to win!?! Barry Willcocks is fast becoming our most consistent player from Workington, after making a third consecutive final table (including Leaving For Las Vegas Part One). Keep up the good work Socks. Your next goal must be to make it to the money. After a absence of a couple of months, it was nice to see Mark Heavey back at the events. Mark has been away working but hasn't forgot how to make it to the final table. Last weekend at Blackpool's G Casino, Gary Clucas cashed for £3400 in the monthly deepstack event. His final table today gives him the lead for the coveted title of Northern Poker Stars Live Tournament Player of the Year. There are only two live events left to decide this winner. What a battle is about to ensue, between CrazyHorse, his mate the Vegas Baby, Joe90, Goodnight, and Fletch.. Watch this space!! David Pike... I told you months ago that this player would be in the mix for the titles next year. Infact, I tipped him to win the Live Tournament Player of the Year in 2010. ANOTHER final table reassures me that my assessment of Pikey is correct. Well played yet again. 4th place and in the cash was my old mate Peter Young. A player that was certainly on form yesterday, both with his poker and his entertainment of fellow players. Well done DaddyDigDog. 3rd place went to one of the Young Guns of NPS, Adrian Gate. In the last two events, I have witnessed him make remarkable reads for the majority of his chips, and call to win big pots with bottom pair. Excellent play Gatey. 2nd place, Andrew Speight. Mr Quiet has not played as much as he would like this year because of work commitments. A great cash yesterday will surely give him confidence as well as extra funds for his trip to Las Vegas with NPS. I bet you can't wait Speighty.. Eddie and yourself rooming together in The Bellagio! Our winner and another player that we haven't seen much of because of the handbrake being applied. This is Kev's first NPS tournament win. I know that it will not be his last! Nice to see you yesterday Kev. An excellent display of poker and a fully deserved victory. The next NPS Live Charity Tournament will be held on Sunday 1st October 2009 @ the Haven Club, 3pm start. We will be raising funds for Cleator Moor Celtic U13's football team, which my son, Cory plays for. Please support this event. Later Dudes!

37 players helped to raise a fantastic £405 for The Cenacolo Community, Kendal. Well done everyone. The final table was invaded by some loose-cannons in Barry Willcocks and Mike Chambers. Socks made some jaw-dropping moves, like a minimum raise UTG with K,6 o/s and calling an AI bet for 20% of his stack with J,9 o/s. Needless to say, his huge chipstack didn't last long and he finished in 9th. The other lunatic, All-In was delighted to make the final table and other than a couple of ridiculous calls, played quite reserved (not good, reserved) for his standards. He eventually went on to cash in 4th place. Pikey made ANOTHER final table, but was low stacked and got no cards. Digger also made a much overdue appearance at both the tournament and the final table, and he was frustrated by the crazy call of his AI bet from who else, but All-In. Chris also sucked out to All-In with A,J suited up against K,J o/s. Fletch, minus the suit and in holiday mode, and I think a few sheets to the wind, made another final table appearance, but like Pikey, was short stacked and hit no cards when it mattered. Tam, fresh from his chopped win at the Richmond and here on a free seat, finished on the bubble. Chembo cashed, but I will get all of that back in rebuy's, at the 1st Vegas event. Scott Chambers, a new young gun from Thornhill, is obviously learning from my mate Moylesy. His second final table in two appearances and a cash in 3rd place. The VegasBaby, returns to the summit of the Live Player Of The Year Leaderboard. Mike made some fantastic lay downs pre-flop. He ditched both pocket Jacks and pocket 10's and both times would have run into pocket Queens. Great play yesterday Mike. Our winner and this is seriously LONG OVERDUE. He has won an EPT ranking tournament and at last has won a Northern Poker Stars event. There were several times when he was almost down to the felt, but was patient and played very well. I think that must be the largest majority of chips at the start of Heads-Up play that I have ever witnessed at an NPS event. Excellent play Ron. The next live tournament will be Leaving For Las Vegas Part One on Sunday 20th September @ The Haven Club, 3pm start. At least 2 players will win a £2000 prize package to Vegas. See the website for full details. Later Dudes!

Many thanks to the 40 players that helped to raise another £440 for the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal. Northern Poker Stars members have now raised £2090 for this fantastic charity this year. Well done everyone. I was very pleased with the number of players at the event yesterday. We had to contend with the Whitehaven Festival and the Luton GUKPT, but still managed to get a good field. Northern Poker Stars are now attracting sporting celebrities. At yesterday's event we had an ex-Super League player in Andrew Grima and a current Scottish International and Premier League footballer in Chris Iwelumo. Chris won the raffle for a free seat at a NPS Live Charity Tournament and went on to finish in 4th place, cashing at his first ever NPS tournament. Well played Chris. It was a shock that our current leader for the NPS Live Player of the Year, going into today's event, John Goodwin, didn't make the final table. He has now been displaced from the top of the leaderboard. Mike Farrer has closed the gap between himself and John, to a single point, after making another final table. The race for Player of the Year is now tighter than ever with only 13 points seperating the top four places. Other than Chris Iwelumo and Frankie The, who has made two final tables, in the short period that he has been playing with us, it was a table full of the usual suspects. The player that has been a revelation since joining NPS, David Pike, made another final table. This is why I have tipped him to do well when he gets a full year's play. Allan Jackson, fresh from his trip to Las Vegas with NPS cashed in 3rd place. This is the first final table appearance at a NPS Live Charity Tournament for Allan. His speciality is the Vegas Qualifiers and with them fast approaching, he will take confidence from this result. Our long time leader for the NPS Live Player of the Year accolade, Gary Clucas, returned to the top after a great performance today. Our winner and surely the most improved player on the NPS circuit, and I will explain all when I do his player profile, Ian Tweedie. Excellent play Ian. Another very healthy cash to fund your poker tour of Great Britain. Thanks to all that participated. The next NPS Live Charity Tournament will be held @ the Haven Club on Sunday 6th September. We are raising funds for The Cenacolo Community, Kendal. Anyone wanting a seat, contact me before Friday 4th September. Later Dudes!

Many Thanks to the 41 players that helped to raise £415 for Gosforth Nursery New Build Project. The children are currently being educated in a portacabin and the committee need to raise £120,000 to gain any lottery funding to help with the cost of building a school. I know that our efforts yesterday were very much appreciated and we will hold another tournament to help, in the not-too-distant future. Scott Chambers at his 1st NPS Live Charity, (here on a free seat too), made the final table. Well played Scott. This was also the case for another new player, Matty Wilson, who finished on the Bubble. Matty, I'm sure that we will see you again at the final table. Regular faces at the final table were Philip Potts, Paul Christian, Chris Glen and Paul Robson. Mr Consistent, John "Goodnight" Goodwin made ANOTHER final table and this puts him to the top of the leaderboard for the NPS Live Player Of The Year accolade. With Gary Clucas missing, it was only a matter of time before "Goodnight" went top. Congratulations John. I'm sure this means more than the £150 that you recieved for 4th place. Maurice Wigham made a second consecutive final table, improving on his 6th place finish last time @ the Haven Club, and cashed in 3rd for £190. 2nd place and £315 went to David Pike. I am going to tip this man to win either the NPS Live or Online Player Of The Year in 2010. I like his style of play. He has played in three live NPS events and has made the final table in all three, cashing in two. He has played three NPS online events and has made the final table in two of the events, finishing 1st and 2nd respectively. Excellent play "Pikey". Our winner was the Vegas Baby, Mike Farrer, who moves above his good friend Gary Clucas and sits in 2nd place on the leaderboard for the NPS LIve Player Of The Year. Mike was down to 2K in chips with 17 players left and blinds at 500/1000. He doubled through with A,K, v pocket 10's. Two hands later with a checked BB to two limpers, Mike pushed AI on a diamond flush draw on the flop with 3,5 of diamonds and hit on the river, doubling him up again. The very next hand and he was AI with pocket J's v pocket 3's. Within four hands he had gone from 2K to 18K. His second hand on the final table brought pocket K's and with it an AI call and the chip lead. Excellent play Dude. A win on Thursday night @ The Richmond and a win yesterday giving you £655 in four days at NPS tournaments. Proof that you don't need to travel to get poker tournaments that are great value for money, with very good payouts. Northern Poker Stars events are all you need. The next NPS Live Charity Tournament will be held on Sunday 9th August @ the Haven Club, 3pm start. We will be raising funds for CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal. Anyone wanting a seat, please contact me.

Many Thanks to the 48 players that helped to raise £500 for CFM Radio's "Cash For Kids" Appeal. Its nice to see so many new players coming along to the Northern Poker Stars events. I have to give a special mention to Ron Wilkinson, who has won a EPT event, but was the 1st player to be eliminated from the tournament. You are obviously feeling the pressure of trailing in the player of the year competition to your brother John, and the higher standard of play at NPS is finding you out! Thanks for dealing the cash table though. Perhaps we have found your niche after all? Well done to all that made the final table, especially the players that are making their 1st appearance, namely Rob Grimwood, Eddie Cameron (are you taking note Speighty and Jimmy?), Wiggy The Rigger and David Pike (at his 1st ever NPS Live Charity Tournament). Pikey was awarded a free seat at the live event after winning the last online competition. Congratulations to John Goodwin on making ANOTHER final table and he is now within 4 points of being the leader in the Live Player Of The Year competion. Other final table regulars were Totty, Mark Heavey and Bodrob who was very unlucky to finish in 2nd place after running into no less than 5 straights whilst playing Heads-Up! Our winner, playing his 1st EVER NPS Live Charity Tournament, was Frankie The. Well Played Frankie. I am sure that we will be seeing much more of you at the final table in future events. The next Live Charity Tournament will be held on Sunday 19th July @ The Haven Club, 3pm start. Please Please PLEASE support this event, as the charity (Gosforth Nursery New Build Project) is for a close personal friend of mine. Later Dudes!

38 players helped to raise £400 for the CFM Radio "Cash For Kids" Appeal. Thanks to all of you. It was nice to see so many new players. Jimmy Bell in his first NPS event and his 1st ever live tournament made the final table and won the raffle, collecting a free seat at the next NPS Live Charity Tournament @ The Haven Club on Sun 28th June. Congratulations Jimmy. Billy Morgan cashed in 4th place. Tony Tomlinson cashed in 3rd place in his 1st NPS event. Paul Smith, who is becoming a regular, and was playing here after winning his seat in the raffle on 10th May, finished runner-up. Thats the best £1 that you have spent Smiddy? Our winner was the better looking of the Wilkinson brothers, and the better poker player, according to my results... Well played, John Wilkinson.   24 players helped to raise £240 for the Renal Ward @ West Cumberland Hospital. These monies are to be presented in memory of Dougie Watt. Dougie was a committee member of the Haven Club, Lowther St, Whitehaven, and he sadly passed away last year despite all the sterling efforts of the staff on the Renal Ward. The final table saw regular faces such as Joeboy (Ian Tweedie), Vegas Baby (Mike Farrer), Joe 90 (Chris Glen) and the tournament winner bodrob (Rob Eilbeck). The outstanding player of the event was the LoveDoctor (David Payne) who must have put almost half the field out of the competition, including yours truly. The play of the event was my AI from the BB, called by the LoveDoctor from SB. The LoveDoctor and bodrob were discussing a previous hand and I managed to take a peak at my hand - Pocket Aces! I announced that "I am AI BLIND, as I am short-stacked". The LoveDoctor, who hadn't seen me take a look at my hand, instantly called with K, 10 o/s.... BOOM! :-) NB. ALL PLAYERS.... K, 10 IS THE MOST OVER-PLAYED HAND IN POKER!! Thanks to all that participated. The next live tournament will be held on Bank Holiday Sunday 24th May, @ The Haven Club, 3pm start.

The largest field of runners this year at a Northern Poker Stars Charity Tournament helped to raise a FANTASTIC sum of £515 for CFM Radio's "Cash For Kids" appeal. This money will be used to help the needy children of Cumbria. EXCELLENT! Thanks to the guys that travelled from Bootle, Carlisle, Cockermouth and Maryport. Nice to see some old faces back, as well as some new ones. Gary Duguid made his second final table in his second event. John "Goodnight" Goodwin makes his USUAL final table appearance. John Wilkinson finishes ahead of brother, Ron, once again, at this venue. Gary "Crazyhorse" Clucas extends his lead at the top of the Live Tournament Player Of The Year Leaderboard. Paul Lamonby, from Carlisle makes the final table on his first appearance at a NPS Tournament. Another 1st timer, Kevin McAllister won the raffle and cashed. Well done Kevin. TT is back in the cash in 4th place. James Moore Jnr showed his Dad the way, after Jimmy Moore Snr's exploits in the Manchester Leg of the GUKPT, a seat he won at NPS. An old rugby foe, although we did play together for Cumbria, and a good friend, Shaun Scholey picked up 2nd place and a wad of cash that will have paid for the taxi home to Maryport, via Seaton, to drop Wayne Nixon off, who has learned that to go All-In doesn't mean your clothes as well. Congratulations to Mark Hillary, who won his 1st Northern Poker Stars event and a fantastic cash prize. Thanks to all that attended.

Firstly thanks to all that participated and a special welcome to the new players. We were pleased to have a couple of guys down from Carlisle (Garry and Alex) and a new member of The Distington Posse! (Andrew). All of you remarked on how much you had enjoyed the tournament and we look forward to you coming back again, and bringing more players with you. Another marvellous day's fundraising for the HCPT - The Pilgrimage Trust. £360 was presented to the charity, to add to the £755 that we have raised already this year, making a total of £1115, which will be used to take sick and disabled children from Cumbria to Lourdes. Well Done Everyone. This is the main reason that these Charity Poker Tournaments hosted by NPS are such a huge success. Final Table: Andrew Cassy - a new face and the landlord of The Castle pub in Distington. Well played Andrew - the best finish on the day by a member of The Distington Posse. Mark Heavey - ANOTHER FINAL TABLE! TT - Your last final table at a Live Charity Tournament was @ Lowca ARL Club on 9th November 2008 - This will hopefully be the start of a good run for you. Gary Clucas - AGAIN. Jeff Cass - Likes to play on the hill. The Haven Club is one of his favourite venues, though at on stage of the tournament, he almost went home after mistaking his opponent for having a Straight, when Blond1e actually had the winning hand. Mike Farrer - AGAIN! Pip, haven't seen you for a while and yesterday showed that you can still mix it. Unlucky to go out on the Bubble. Gary Fowler, another man that hasn't been for a while, but showed that your ultra-loose unconventional style (don't think Gary reads The Poker Bible either Sean), still gets the results. Cashed in 5 HeadHunter chips, so you are winning the races that you are involved in. Garry Duguid. This Dude from Carlisle caught my eye and I am sure that we will see him plenty of times on the NPS Final Table. By his own admission, an online player, but played really well all day yesterday and picked up 2nd place, in your 1st NPS Live Event. Excellent play Garry. Our winner, Paul Christian, is in a rich vein of form at the minute. Has won his last 2 live and the last online event that he has played at NPS. Well Done Fletch. He is making his move to be the Live and Online Player Of The Year. Thanks again to all that played yesterday. I am delighted that we have helped the HCPT over the past 3 months, with the remarkable sums of money that we have raised. Well Done To All :-)

A fantastic days poker at an excellent venue. The return of the £30 Double Chance and Sit-&-Go tables available for the players after they were knocked out of the main event. NPS is going from strength to strength. £230 raised for HCPT - The Pilgrimage Trust. That's £775 that we have raised for this charity that takes disabled children from Cumbria, to Lourdes. It costs in the region of £750 per child for this trip, and we have managed to send one child along, and we still have another charity event booked on the 29th March to help this fantastic charity. Well Done And Thanks To All Players. The final table saw the Tiger and his "baby" Kilo, take most of the table apart. The Tiger was in a serious mood and took it easy on the drink, until the tournament started.. Moylesy won the raffle and won it again when he pushed AI with K,10 (the most overplayed hand in poker), to find me calling him with A,J. I spiked a J on the flop, but as is my luck, or lack of it, Moylesy hit a K on the turn! Mike unfortunately had to leave early as the handbrake had been put on and did not play his usual impressive game after building a good stack. Toddy finished on the Bubble for the 2nd consecutive tournament and Gaz Clucas is pushing me a close 2nd for suffering bad beats. I feel for you Dude.. It is sickening and frustrating, but at least you now sit at the top of the NPS Live Player Of The Year Leaderboard. The final 2 saw the good friends head to head. Joeboy versus the Tiger & Kilo who had a 6:1 chip lead. I am not saying that you should'nt drink, but within 24 minutes, Ian had taken the Tiger to the cleaners, and that was allowing for the Tiger's toilet and smoke breaks (yes smoke, not cigarette!), and the fact that it took Tiger & Kilo, an age to play each hand, even though Paul, your Tournament Director was helping Tiger & Kilo to post the blinds. Well Done Joeboy, though I think you know that it was handed to you on a plate! Thanks to all that participated. See you on the 27th and / or the 29th March.

This has to be the longest final table ever at a NPS tournament. Play started at 7:27pm and we didn't have a winner until 10:14pm (facts and figures courtesy of the new Tournament Director software). The rise in the standard of play has shown that the final table is now a war of attrition and these tournaments take some winning. Another factor which contributed to the longevity of the event was the luck of the short stacks when they were close to being blinded out. The short stack always seemed to win in the vital AI race yesterday, no matter how much of an underdog they were. I know Totty fell foul of it and a player to take advantage of this was our eventual winner, Paul Christian, who at one stage was sat with his clothes that he came in, his pint and very little else. A few double up's and some nice cards as well as some lucky one's and Paul wins his 1st NPS tournament. Well Done Fletch. A great heads-up battle with a very stubborn player in Nagger, who played excellent all day. I must mention Gaz Cluc, who at one stage was running away with the tournament, but picked up hands that he couldn't get away from (A,J v 10,10),(Q,Q v A,A),(J,,J v Q,Q) and saw his stack decimated. Another day and I would have been home in time to watch Lost. Unlucky Dude. 2 final tables in a row though Gaz, as has Totty. Toddy who we see at our events as often as I see Junior getting a round in, makes the final table, but goes out on the bubble. Goodnight is back at the final table after missing out for the 1st time ever at the last event. Well done to all and thanks very much for helping to raise £235 for CFM Radio's "Cash For Kids" Appeal...

What a day of shocks.. Chris Glen is 1st out, closely followed by No2 Rooster Blob. Another shock is that John Goodwin (Goodnight), fails to make a final table for the 1st time. His good friend, Stephen Brough, did however make the upper echelon. A huge shock for Mike Farrer when Joeboy called his AI with nothing. Nice to see The Tiger back where we all want to see him. Karl proves that he is the best poker player in his house. Fresh from his HUGE win in Liverpool, at an EPT event, Richard Wikinson, sorry Ron, finds that an NPS event is a different nut to crack. Mark Heavey makes another final table appearance. Good going considering Mark only joined us in October. Gary Clucas gets points to stay in touch with the leaders. Kev Steward who I thought played excellent all day makes a long overdue final table. Totty, who is still to win a live tournament finished 2nd. Unlucky mate. It will come. Congratulations to the Vegas Baby, Mike Farrer. This is his 2nd victory at our live games, although he has been on many final tables. Thanks to the guys for travelling from Maryport, Bootle and Broughton as well as all the locals. Thanks also for raising £250 to take sick and disabled children from Cumbria to Lourdes... Well Done Dudes!

41 players took part in the final Live Charity Tournament of the year. Together we raised £370 for the Community Midwife Support Group, thank you everyone. Congratulations to all that made the final table, with a special mention to John Goodwin and Stephen Brown, who have made the final table at EVERY Northern Poker Stars live charity Tournaments that they have entered. we had the double act of the Tiger and Ian, with the former better looking Dude finishing higher AGAIN. Wilma makes it three consecutive cashes, two live and one online and Jimmy Todhunter wins his first Northern Poker Stars event, Well Done Jimmy. I am sure that I am speaking for all of the girls, and for Paul and myself when I wish you all the a Very Merry Christmas.. Sober up in the New Year, or not at all in Tiger's case.   Where do I start with this one.... 57 players contested the first ever live tournament in the region to use running ante's. We brought these in to bring the tournaments to completion at an earlier time and of course, it went on for another hour or so! I think you as players, are going to have to accept the fact that the standard of play has increased, and that is the reason the tournaments are lasting so long. Nobody can say that you are not getting value for your money! I have to say though that the feedback about the running ante's is very positive and I have to agree that it made the tournament much more professional. A grand total of £720 (£550 poker, £40 donation of her wages for Wednesday night by Julie Dyer and £40 donations from the players for the free sausage and chips, kindly provided by Margaret Donaldson, plus donations from Martin Young, Dawn Southey and other players to the sum of £90). was raised for the Young Disabled Unit at West Cumberland Hospital. Yesterday was almost a ladies day. We had two on the final table, Linda Winder, who I thought at one stage was destined to win and Jenny McConnell who along with Linda both far outlasted their respective partners, Kevin "No2 Twin" Preston & Mark "Bootle's No1 Elect" Winder. Not much bragging rights in your household's then lads? I also have to mention Lorna Cutts, partner of Robert "No1 Twin" Preston, who narrowly missed out on the final table as did Margaret Thompson, who played outstandingly all day, and yes players, she has played before! Other mentions from the final table are 1st timers Shaun "RatArsed" Rayson & Mike O'Neil, who both cashed at the first time of asking, also Stephen Brown & John Goodwin, both played 2 events and both had 2 final tables, Well Done Men. Martin Young, cashed and donated some of his winning to the charity, thanks Martin & Dawn Southey. We have a new leader at the top of the NPS Player Of The Year Leaderboard. In the absence of Gary Clucas, who was away in Paris with his partner (was that for a romantic proposal?), Distington's Finest, Josy Hewer made his 4th final table from 4 events this year, EXCELLENT! I did state on this site that this man would make final tables this year.. Our eventual winner, who cannot do anything wrong at the minute, was the very likeable, Paul Robson. He won the 1st NPS Online Tournament, two weeks ago and picked up £220 and a free seat for the Live Charity Tournament at Whitehaven Golf Club. At the Golf Club, he bought 2 raffle tickets and won a free seat at yesterday's event and picked up £605 for his victory.. CONGRATULATIONS Bucket. Well done to Moylesy (Chris Cowley or is it Chris Moyles, it IS very confusing) who hit a Royal Flush yesterday and to Shep, our croupier at the final table who dealt Pocket Queens, Pocket Kings and Pocket Aces in the same hand.. Carnage!

47 players contested the tournament @ Whitehaven Golf Club, (please read my blog entry) and a fantastic £390 was raised for Footsteps (Child Support Unit @ West Cumberland Hospital) which was a very apt charity as yesterday was the annual day to raise funds for Children In Need. The final table contained a few new faces and one of the "rookies," Mark Heavey finished in the cash. Well done Mark. Josy Hewer and the eventual (yes eventual as in 3am!) winner Gary Clucas have now made 3 consecutive final tables and this is portrayed by their scores on the leaderboard. A fantastic night of poker played by everyone. Many Thanks to Daniel and Bob for your hospitality at such a great venue. Next week, @ the Falcon Club, I predict will be the largest field of runners this year to date. Don't miss out... Get your ticket early.

Forty-Six players sat down to contest today's tournament at Lowca ARL Club, and helped to raise £300 for the Players Fund. Thank You Everybody.. The final table, as you can see from above, oozed quality players and coupled with the lack of alcohol consumed by the same, meant that it was a long battle before we reached our eventual winner. The card of the day was a Queen which always seemed to pair up to bust the Ace Jack or King Ten.. Joan Lawley would have loved this final table. Thanks to all who made this a very enjoyable day, and I hope to see you all at Whitehaven Golf Club on Friday 14th November for our next charity tournament. Don't forget that tomorrow is the start of the Northern Poker Stars Online Tournaments.. See you all at the tables..

Raffle Winner: John Richardson
The final table started at an early time of 19:30 hrs and as there wasn't many chips in play because of the new format, I thought we would be in for an early finish. How wrong was I... Two and a half hours, must rank up there with the longest time to complete a final table at any tournament that I have ever run. The amazing thing about it though was this.. All the players waited and waited for hands to make a move on, but when they came, they got busted. Every showdown on the final table with the exception of maybe two or three, the hand that was leading pre-flop, failed to hold up. It's a good job that TT had gone home!?! A very enjoyable day though. Thanks very much to all the players, old and new. Can't wait for the next one. Kendal, next week and I will be playing... Beware The Tournament Director!
